AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!!!
This is the WORST business I've been to...ever! On Memorial weekend a couple of years ago, I went to pick up a truck that I had reserved weeks in advance. I had been waiting on hold for two hours (no kidding) and finally gave up and went to the store. When I got there, they said they didn't have it--there was a line out the door of absolutely FURIOUS customers, all of whom had "reserved" trucks and were then told they were none. (Why didn't they just tell me that on the phone?!?) Turns out the "reservation" meant absolutely nothing; they just rented out all the trucks to people who walked in the door that morning, leaving all of us with "reservations" in the lurch. They called the cops when one (small!) woman insisted they remedy the situation as she was supposed to move to Southern California that day and was screwed. The salespeople LAUGHED (yes: laughed) at people and made jokes while being the rudest to customers that I have ever seen in my life. I will never, never, never go there again, and I would recommend you stay away, too. So bad! - natalie , posted 12/12/07

I also got burned there. It's a long story that I don't want to get into, but I swore I would never return. Bastards. - Khang-pa , posted 11/01/06

my crappy berkeley uhaul story
I was trying to have a trailer hitch installed on my jeep so I could tow a small trailer to BRC. I called and told them what kind of car I had and they gave me an appointment. I dropped off my car, came back an hour later, and they told me they were backed up and hadnt gotten to me yet. I called, every hour, for four hours. Then they told me that they didnt have the right hitch for my car and would have to order it.

A week later, Mike calls me to tell me they have my hitch. So I bring my car down, drop it off and head over to Lanesplitters, asking them to call me on my cell if there is a problem or when they are done. Two hours later, I call them and they tell me my hitch never came in. I screamed bloody murder, totally lost it, and they were absolute dicks. Eventually, I was so obnoxious that someone called Mike at home, and he told them exactly where it was... in (gasp) the storeroom with all of the other hitches, with a bright red tag with my name on it.

After that, it took them only another five hours to actually install the hitch. I was so skeptical of their shoddy work that I had a mechanic look at it and, sure enough, the bolts were fucked up and had to be redone.

Those guys totally suck. Thank you for letting me share. :-) - Tara , posted 09/08/06

I concur
Plus they always have the vans lined up and down the street blocking traffic and shit. I was walking to the post office one day and nearly got hit by a car trying to walk around the line of vans. - Unsubscribed , posted 09/07/06

uhaul san pablo sucks ass
ditto

horible, incompetent, rude service. they did not have the truck i reserved and they did not care. moving is already stressful enough, don't make it worse by having any business with these jerks. this happened years ago - looks like one thing they are good at is being consistent --- at sucking. - la colline , posted 09/07/06

do NOT use the berkeley uhaul at san pablo near university ave if you can help it!
they lied to us for two days straight- telling us that we would be finished getting a hitch installed "soon".
we were there for 7 hours the first day and 6 the second.
we were frustrated and stuck. we would've left- but we had so much time invested, and they would tell us- hey just one more hour (over and over)
they didn't apologize- they were very unprofessional all around.
because we were there for so long, we had to witness several other people crying/ shouting/ threatening the manager (mike) because of all of the problems.

origionally, we were told to have our car there at 11 am and we would be done by one pm. we had friends ready to help us move at 1:30 on a weekday and we got home at 6:30 without a hitch installed (we waited the whole day-while they said that they were almost finished- only to find out that they didn't even start!

the manager lied to customers all day and all the next day too :(
use anyone else if you can. - Zero Attention Sp... , posted 08/30/06
