A real treasure
This bar is a real treasure in San Francisco. The bar has a long history, and its the perfect place to go and hang out with a few friends to chat. It is laid back and not too loud. After an amazing meal someplace in North Beach, this should definitely be your next stop. - Joan , posted 10/18/04

Get your beat on
Ok. I'm a little agog that I'm actually the first person to recommend this place on Tribe. I mean, come on folks, this IS the beat hangout from days gone by. Admittedly, I'm not a huge bar fly, but if I'm gonna be skulking around a giggle water fountain it damn well better be Vesuvio. This place has got ghosts galore, and they are all happy to lend an ear if you decide, say, to buy a copy of "Howl" next door at City Lights and read it aloud to yourself whilst sipping a hot toddie. Some things about SF culture did NOT get toppled by the wrecking ball of dot-com days. dig it.
