Maybe I missed something....
I saw this movie the other day for the first time, hadn't heard anything about it whatsoever but I liked Darren Arronofski's other movies so I figured I'd give it a shot. Maybe I missed something, but I really wasn't impressed by it at all.
It wasn't bad, per say; The effects were decent and it was a good concept. I just don't understand how (like someone else already said) this is the end result of how many years and how much money was put into this movie.
The parts were well cast, but I fet like the characters were very lacking in their development - the same problem he had with Reqium. I didn't connect with any of the characters... they didn't seem at all like real people to me. I understand that some movies require suspension of disbelief - and trust me, I suspended my disbelief. It didn't make the movie any more appealing to me at all.

At the end of the movie I literally turned to my roommate and said "So... what was going on there?" and she was just as confused by it.

Like I said - decent concept... it just didn't work out quite like he hoped I think. - Kaxtie , posted 09/22/07

mind blowing
My daughter caught me watching it. She just turned seven. This was awhile ago. Anyway SHE got all caught up in it and we had this long talk about meditating and she actually put it all together about the three different lives once I started to explain it. It really captivated both of us. - mizzie star , posted 09/22/07

I agree about it being to soon
I really counldnt even believe i was watching it in a movie theater. I have never heard anything else about this story or book. So i was enthrawled the entire time, and cried through most of it. It was briliant. I wonder what the room would feel like if a bunch of us watched it together.
Oh and the best part is, I went to see it twice and at the end of course I was speechless, but everyone else was too. no one said a word, jsut got up and walked out, bothtimes. where talking 100 or so people, speechless. It was awsome - Briana , posted 07/19/07

Aronofsky is light years ahead of his time
To really appreciate the story and where he was going with it all you have to read the graphic novel which is an extended version of the film or his cut before the studio cut him.

This film is in a word breathtaking, and as the dvd extras will explain every scene is created to emulate the womb from darkness to light in a linear set of frames..

It is one of my top ten films of all time, and that is saying a lot I AM Picky.

Watch it twice to fully understand it, after you read the graphic novel. - KaraK , posted 06/20/07

A Director's Cut is Looked Forward to!
A director's cut is what I look forward to next! It will definitely fill in the Emptiness! HA! Another tribe member here mentioned the darkness of the film and there is a reason for that darkness - to offset and brighten the Light! I enjoyed another comment here about how a male Scientist evolves. His wife, who is Enlightened, is the Artist - and she is there to offset and free his Fear - through Love.

How disappointing...
... especially after seeing the "making of" sequences in the DVD first. As someone who tires of seeing unreal CGI effects constantly in movies, I was really looking forward to seeing the huge, grand sets created for this film. While there were some CGI effects, most of the sets were organic, but they were so poorly lit in the film that I couldn't appreciate them at all. You get much better visuals from in the "making of," if you can stomach the typical mutual masturbation of the director, producer, lighting guy, etc.

Hugh Jackman is well cast, but the dialogue is weak and the plot is thin. It's hard to believe that the director spent so many years and so much money on such pretentious wankery. See it for the eye candy, if you must, but don't expect a "life-changing" epiphany about the circle of life... - Pacifica Funkster , posted 05/31/07
