don't go often enough
It's one of those places that I just don't get to that much, but it's such an Oakland staple. Maybe if I was a better singer.... - Dan , posted 04/07/05

Only been there twice
But had fun both times... The kinda bar you want to go to when you don't wanna be SEEN. - PB , posted 12/15/04

piano bar
This is a funky spot with just as funky regulars. There is a piano bar that patrons can sit around and sing their drunk hearts out. They only take cash and the drinks are cheap. - tre-tre , posted 10/08/04

Strange....yet enticing
The Alley is the place to be on Friday/Saturday nights, after 9 PM. Every night, after 9 PM (they're closed Sunday & Monday though), Ron Dibble plays the piano and does piano karaoke...you know...like they used to do before those crappy machines. Good to brush up on your jazz standards and old Broadway tunes, the drinks are great and cheapish, the decor is bizarre, and the food is surprisingly, scarily good, if you're looking for bar food or steaks. A great "dive" bar with friendly people, no pretensions, and a place to take people from out of town looking for that "weird Bay Area" experience. - , posted 10/07/04

Oaklands best fire hazzard
The Alley (right up the street from Grand Lake Theater) is the best place to listen to really bad piano standards/impromptue kareoke, get a cheap steak with all the fixens, drink a few bottles of beer, and wonder how the management's paying off the fire marshall so they can remain in business. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/07/04

The Alley... Drinks and Songs
The atmosphere is a bit grimy, but they like it that way. The music revolves around a piano player who knows every song in the book, and a karaoke style open mic. No beer on tap, but the cocktails are great and reasonably priced. - Bret , posted 10/06/04

Coolest Piano Bar Ever
This bar is a trip. The decor is wild and fantastic; the walls are lined with decades of business cards. The food is cheap and yummy-greasy. But best of all, almost every night Ron Dibble takes to the piano and plays old crooner hits, while you sing (karoake style, but with sheet music). The crowd of singers is the most diverse crowd I've ever seen, from young hipster to random, certifiably crazy person, and all talented! The live karoake/sing-a-long starts at 9pm. You can't miss this. It's surreal in the best way possible. - Lucia , posted 10/06/04
