Redefining Authentic
I lived on Lombard and would pass this little place called Taste of the Himalayas. I have had many a story told to me about Nepal and its majik, I wanted to try this restaurant so bad for some reason. Well YOU should too. It is tiny enough to make you feel right at home, good enough to eat at every other day and pricing reasonable that you would be smart to do so.

Authentic meaning genuine people. The owner Shrawan is nothing short of enchanting. He welcomes you with open arms, song, incense or sage sweeping, and the food. . .man. Not only that but he uses most of the profits to fund his 50 child orphanage in Nepal. More recently he has opened a foundation in SF to feed our many homeless called Curry with no Worry.

Eat and help your community, and children on the other side of the globe. You will not regret dining here in fact it will be a staple and a well welcomed haven. Hope to see you there sometime.

He also plans crazy month long adventures in Nepal including tea houses on top of the mountain, trecking, trips to the Jungle (yes jungle in southern Nepal) and much much more.

I highly recommend the lamb and the tandori, flavor burst doesn't quite cover it. The samosas, the dessert, the spinich dish. ..oh . . I'm hungry.

Here is their own mission statement:
Our mission is to share hearty soul food and music from Nepal and bring friends from the East and the West together while sharing part of our income with local and international charities. We serve authentic Himalayan dishes, tasty momos (steamed dumplings), rich curries and succulent tandoori, in a casual atmosphere. We use freshly grown organic vegetables and spices to bring the most authentic taste in town. We believe in bringing the best service to our valued customers. Your valuable comments will make us grow. We listen to you.
