I'm addicted to Swan's
I have a serious S.O.D addiction. Its the best seafood in the city for reasonable prices. Everything is fresh and tasty, and the italian brothers/uncles/cousins who run the lunch counter will make your day. There is usually a lunch rush, but the meal is always worth it! - Sarah , posted 08/09/05

Still excellent!
Though i have left California ,and indeed the country, I always make the effort to visit when in SF. Was there last in Sept. If they have crab, get it- it will be so fresh and delish! I can't find fault with the oysters either.Always a good ,simple meal here.In my opinion, the Swan has still 'got it'! - Susie , posted 01/11/05

quintessential SF
Though they keep short hours (lunch only) and aren't open on Sundays :-(, this place is the quintessential fresh seafood hole-in-the-wall SF. Family-run for what appears to be generations, this place is usually always busy and everyone eats in a single-file line at the seafood bar in this very narrow, tiny place. The prices are reasonable, so the lines are usually long... be prepared to wait up to a half an hour or more. Have them pour you an Anchor Steam while you wait. - Dave K. , posted 01/10/05

Delicious Seafood
Wait in line for lunch at this tiny oyster bar on Polk St. Fresh oysters, salads are outstanding. Pony up to the bar for a treat. - Psychic , posted 10/21/04

Simply the Best Raw Bar Anywhere
Fantastic raw oysters, shrimp, etc., all served up by a hale and hearty crew. It can get crowded at this tiny establishment, but if you can stomach a wait on "colorful" Polk Street, you won't be disappointed by this glimpse into San Francisco's glorious, retreating past. - Lewis , posted 10/16/04
Swan Oyster Depot is no longer a good place
Hog Island also now has a spot inside the Ferry Building as well as a stand. The oysters are choice and you probably *don't* need to call ahead. I've picked up 12 dozen a number of times without a problem.

And, I have to say, Swan Oyster Depot is no longer a good place for oysters. Hasn't been for years. Too expensive for the quality and way too many tourists who've read some cheap-o travel guide. - Patrick , posted 04/08/04
