Always-interesting alternative theater
Patrick Dooley and his merry band of Shotgun Players have been performing in Berkeley (and occasionally Oakland and SF) locations for 12 years now, and they just keep getting better. Some of their shows are new material, some are new takes on traditional work, and most have some outrageous (or outrageously funny) element. Many of the players are really good. And on the (very) rare occasion that a show is a total flop, they'll apologize. Instead of selling tickets, they're now asking for donations at the end of the show to encourage a broader audience to see the plays. (But you can still pay for membership, which gets you a reserved seat plus show program.) As of this year, they've got their very own theater at Ashby & MLK.
