In the tradition of early 70s rock, Shawna & the Deadly Nightshades--Keef Equinox on lead guitar, Jack Damage on bass, and Kirsten Haaland on drums--play edgy original tunes with cleverly- chosen renditions of classic songs (I particularly dig Virago's version of "Cracked Actor" by Bowie, which I heard them play at the Eagle recently.) Shawna is the baddest tranny girl I've met! I love her! Her band is sexy trashy, all of 'em! shawna virago is a songwriter and performer creating a new category in rock music. I don't know of anyone doing what she's doing. a super intelligent writer with influences spanning a couple decades... important art for any music fan, gender queer, social historian or rock 'n' roller. the back up band is on top of their game as well - kj , posted 11/07/04 |
