Second Life is the best freeform virtual world as of January 2008. Second Life allows users from all over the world to interact using avatars in a 3D virtual environment where there are no set goals to follow - users do what they choose, much like in real life. Second Life uses streaming object technology that permits a rapidly changeable user created world. Avatar motion is more realistic than older virtual worlds. User created objects can be made to do things by user created scripts. Users buy virtual land, construct virtual buildings, run virtual businesses, and so on, plus, they chat. The chat is real. Competition is on the way, so Second Life will have to work to keep it's place at the top of my list of virtual worlds, but at this time Second Life is number one. -  SuezanneC
