just awful
I've been to Ruby Skye on a couple of occasions. Sorry, the awesome sound doesn't make up for the shit you have to deal with inside. It seems like the people that work there are paid to treat you like crap. From the guys at the door to the bartenders all I've ever gotten was bad service. Don't even get me started on their drinks. I'm never going back. I'd rather spend my money on a venue that actually cares about my experience inside.

And the sound isn't all that hot shit either. nyah - Aaron , posted 12/15/08

Lame!
The candy girls, Security and DJ's are about the best thing there...the people, prices and some music choices blow...not worth it - Elissa , posted 12/15/08

FUK PLASTIC
Fake ass hollywood crowd! It sucks that this empty shell caters to TOP DJ'S when in town! How do we put an end to that? I started by sending emails to my TOP dj's to please keep it REAL and perform at a venue where the REAL,TRUE,TRIBE LIKE following go to..... - Alva , posted 11/26/06

this place reeks of stuck up bartenders
we recently had a party at ruby skye and we left at 11:30pm because the bartenders were very rude... they also overcharged us for drinks and gave smart ass facial expressions when we gave a tip... actually, it was not all of them but two of the bartenders.... after giving a second chance and going to a different person and received the same reaction--- i realized, maybe it's not me that were seeing things!!! so what would you do if you order a drink and it taste like soda and a bartender was flipping you and your friends off on the side? way to be descreet guys! i don't know who hired those guys but we are never going back there again... so for those of you who want to order drinks and pay $9- for them and have it taste like watered down soda- this is the place to be! have fun! - letlove , posted 06/19/06

gets some good DJ's, and has smoking area if you are into that
If this place was in south Florida: a) they wouldn't let as many people in b) they wouldn't let as many guys in c) the women wouldn't be as stuck up as they are d) the guys wouldn't be total meat-heads e) the drinks would be cheaper f) people wouldn't mind having conversations g) people would actually dance with each other.

Yes, that's right in other parts of the world when people go to dance clubs they actually dance with other people!!!

Shocking news.....

RS is the embodiement of all that is wrong with the Bay Area if you are in your 20's, it's like taking all the b/s and putting it all into one place.

It's really too bad because they did spend so much money on that place to make it look nice. Unfortunately, it's been completely trashed.

It's only saving grace is that it gets some good dj's once in a while, and I know how to get in for free. - Dominik , posted 01/22/06

A love hate afair
So much potential with the space and talent on the tables they bring in. too bad the crowd is too caught up in themselves to be worth being around. Save yourself the time and effort go anywhere else - call me M , posted 10/22/05

Surreal
They have all the big name cheezy DJs play here right? I went for a specific DJ I liked so the music was pretty good and I liked walking around the upstairs area and looking down at the firm buttcheeks on the go-go dancers, but it probably ranks as the most laughable club I've ever been to - Liz , posted 10/05/05

Ridiculous

Overrated
There are too many people to dance to the music. The interior is beautiful which is why I gave it two starts instead of one, but I didn't like the music or the crowd. If you are looking for one of those clubs you see on tv (you know, high ceilings, dancing girls, and the feeling of being superior), then go to this club. But if you're looking to have a good time, drink, and dance, avoid it like the plague. - Felicia , posted 05/10/05

This Venue is Stunning: World Class Deep House D.J.'s
Ruby Skye has attracted big names such as John Digweed, Deep Dish, Anthony Pappa and Hernan Cattaneo. The space itself is like a trophy in that the architecture is stunning and the staff is very pleasant. I always check out what is going on here because I am afraid I might miss a great dance. The only problem is that some people that go there don't even know the DJ's name? And these are the very people that don't understand that I don't need them to ask me to dance. I guess, what I am trying to say is that there are some newby's to the house scene often in attendance that require patience. This annoyance is not so bad though that it prevents me from dancing to the best DJ's. - flashlotusback , posted 05/05/05

Improved drastically over other clubs in the city
The music and sound at this club have improved drastically. The people are much more polite here compare to other clubs. At one other club in the city, which I will not name name, the patrons are very rude. There was one instance, I told this guy that the girl is my GF yet he continued to pester her and us the whole night. It was hard for us to have fun and enjoy ourselves when people would not leave alone. - Loc , posted 03/02/05

Skip it . . .
. . . unless you don't actually live here in SF, in which case, by all means, check out Ruby Skye. There are actually a few things I like about the space, the good-size smoking lounge being number one, but overall it is just so cheezy that it becomes truly laughable after a few drinks. - eliza , posted 01/28/05

pretentious asshole overload
snotty rich kids, girls with implants larger in size than their IQ's, asshole frat boys and the bridge and tunnel crowd who have no imagination and are afraid to venture south of market. the real entertainment begins when one of the frat boys decides to try and pick a fight with you for accidentally glancing in the direction of his girlfriend. there are far better places in the city, and this isn't one of them. - greg , posted 01/27/05

Meatheads...
could there be any more? I'm not sure what this place is trying to become, but it's not so my scene. Some friends put me on a "guest list" and it turned out that EVERYONE was on it anyway. We waited outside forever in the cold to get in with the masses, and then found the coat check useless. There was no space to dance, only to drink and strike a pose for the ladies/men. Maybe it's different on regular nights? I was there to see DJD. - Kevin™ , posted 01/16/05

love the space, hate the people.
I actually really love Ruby Skye; I think the venue itself is majestic and interesting. As someone else said in an earlier review, ignore the people. I think it's really funny to watch them cruise and squabble - kind of like chickens, but with money and status symbols. It is overpriced - I agree. It's not always featuring bad DJs - it depends. If you ever see that DJ Anita Lofton is spinning, go! Just have a drink and wander around and watch the BS from the balcony and revel in the weirdness. - meagan , posted 01/15/05

horrid.
The service: distracting stupid bridge and tunnel folk, marina folk, and the uninformed from better venues and better djs. perfect, five stars.

the environment and feel: 0 stars. the former really outweighs the latter.

Bring me to bimbo's, drop me at slims, knock my head off at studio Z, instead of forcing me to visit this horrid shitstain on SFs nightlife. - jb , posted 01/13/05

An Utter Shame...
That sucha wonderful space has such a sucky crowd. (Rude, drunk, there to see and be seen, can't dance, don't know their music, etc.) On the other hand, it does a useful service by providing a place for that crowd/vibe to congregate. While I dance the night away most anywhere else. - Amy , posted 01/13/05

Super cool space with super lame people
Holy shit does this place have attitude! There's a line to get in. Then when you do get in there's no one there. Then after 12 the place is crowded. Plus I don't think anyone in there is wearing anything made from natural fibers. Nylon and polyester as far as the eye can see. Sorry I didn't wear my gold watch, necklace and bracelet for you guys. Too bad there's such good talent that goes through there. - Pete , posted 01/12/05

overpriced euro wanna be crap hole
This place absolutely sucks. I was dragged in one night - and got in for free.. imagine how pissed I'd be if I had to pay the cover charge for the privilege of a 10 dollar cape cod and creepy old men checking out my rack. stay away. - Eileen , posted 11/16/04

totally merch.
as in commerical. decent clubby tech house when there's not a super star there, it where oaky always plays at , usually $20 to get in, no scene, good soundsystem. full of eurotrash that can't dance and location of the worth gin n tonic i've had in my long career. yeah, spend your time and money to find the real party, unless you're going here to see a rock star.

am i right? - mycho james , posted 10/20/04

Good DJs, pretty bad crowd
Fortunately, great DJs come to San Francisco.
Unfortunately, they often come to Ruby Skye.

As great as the space is, and the sound system/visuals are usually pretty great, the crowd is usually bridge-&-tunnel, marina yuppie-grrl, those chicks with pink tinted indoor "sunglasses" and matching handbags. Lots of bachelorette parties or other gaggles of straight bimbettes.

You can have a great time, if you just ignore the drunken idiots, women stumbling around in high heels with their purses smacking you, and general boring-normals vibe that most of the people there give off. Up front and center is the place to be, if you really want to hear/experience the DJ, and any of the people who are there for the music. - B-Qat , posted 09/28/04

Cool Club & Good Music
This club has a great scene of San Francisco and great beats to match. Supposedly it used to be an old theater house and now it was converted to a dance club with hardwood floors on the first floor and a mezzanine area with bars on both floors. Theres always plenty of room, but it gets cozy around the midnight hour on the first floor. - Rebekah , posted 09/09/04
