its not there now
this place is now called 'cole coffee', right? still with great poached eggs, drip coffee, scones with little pinklips of jam on them... - martin , posted 11/16/06

Individual drip coffee
One point off for being in Rockridge, which is barely tolerable even for just 30 minutes. But everything else is awesome, the coffee drips just for your cup, etc. - John , posted 08/09/05

Best coffee, service and people
Sometimes I get myself out of my north oakland bed by thinking of the aroma and taste of Royal Coffee...and it works to get me going! Oh, and great people watching and striking up a conversation... - Jackie , posted 03/12/05

After visiting Paris and later discovering Royal coffee on College avenue did I notice how cool Royal coffee really is!

Possibly best coffee ever, worth the line
I love Royal Coffee; the excellent quality actually makes me not go insane standing in line and trying to scramble for a place to stand outside to drink it. Always part of my ideal sunday afternoon. - kris , posted 10/14/04

where the coffee is almost as good as the company
One part of Royal will make breakfasty things, the other is quick and efficient. The breakfasty part also does individual press & drip coffee cups! That's right...you can go there...pick a buncha beans...specify to what extent you need them ground...then watch them steep infront of your eyes. Alot of older people and dog lovers hang out on the nonsmoking (infront the shop) part, where as the undeniably sexy folk congregate across the street where the produce gets unloaded. - Iren , posted 10/14/04

Best coffee hang-out
Good coffee, great place to hang-out and be social. European cafe' style seating. Major 'cycling' meeting spot.

Not just good coffee, but a genuine East Bay scene!
Royal Coffee is one of those neighborhood institutions - a place a cultural anthropolgist could have a field day, and a great coffee (or breakfast). It's a local biker scene, a place for the neighborhood self-employed to get their social fix for the day, and a virtual cat-walk of the area's pretty people. Visit either the corner location for pastries, poached eggs, and comfy chairs, or for those really in the know, the storefront down 62nd for beans, grounds, and black gold of many varieties. - Daria , posted 10/11/04

Best coffee in the East Bay
Royal Coffee is the perfect Rockridge spot for a caffiene pick-me-up. The coffee is the strongest you'll find in the East Bay, the poached eggs and toast are perfect for a leisurely breakfast while sitting with your dog at a sidewalk table, and the pasteries from La Farine are to die for. - Kim , posted 10/11/04
