Ricky Lee Robinson is a one-man-band, literally. Just his voice, his guitar, and his two feet on the drums. I thought he had a pretty cool choice of songs, including a catchy cover of "Stayin' Alive". I bet that what he does-- all by himself-- is even harder than it looks. - Dave K. , posted 02/27/06 |

You know, I don't like the guy, but we have a history. Frankly his last band sucked (although technically he's a decent musician... the music was very self-indulgent), and he didn't seem to care about his audience, fellow musicians or others in his life around him much. But that was then. He's got a new gig and it seems that he's improved... judging by that fact that folks seem to be amused by his one man show. It's a bit of a spectacle, even if it's motivated by a lonely ego that thinks every other musician isn't good enough to play with him. Chances are he hasn't changed much and he's still pretty much an asshole. It's a hard thing to change. He was my room mate and not a good one, so maybe I just have issues with him. Still, being an asshole doesn't mean you can't do good art. Wagner was an asshole too. Then again, he's not Wagner either. - Andreas , posted 01/26/05 |

Well, I've seen Ricky a bunch of times and it's just fun, slilly evening of music. I know all the ultra serious music talents in the Bay area are pretty dam amazing, but if you just want to go and have a good time, go check RLR for yourself. For a one man band, he's pretty dam good. - Craig , posted 12/09/04 |

...(not that The Raspberries were especially original in the first place) and you begin to understand what Ricky Lee Robinson is all about. If that doesn't do it for you, try throwing Eric Carman (sans vocal talent), Neil Diamond and Leif Garrett into that teleportaion pod from the movie The Fly and imagine what might pop out the other end...Yeah...I think I'd rather go with the baboon surprise too. If you really need to take a nostalgia trip and you're looking for a modern band that delivers the goods, you could do a lot better. Check out The Brian Jones Town Massacre, Beachwood Sparks or even Matthew Sweet. - Stan , posted 11/25/04 |

Even Chicken JOhn was impressed, and if that jaded guy says out loud "This guy Rocks!" you know it's got to be true! I happen to agree whole heartedly, btw. - Rachel , posted 11/22/04 |

Did you know Ricky was a child prodigy on the 'cello? If only those uptight conductors of old could see him now--they'd probably fall off the friggin' podium. He rocks, and I mean ROCKS!! - Rachael , posted 11/22/04 |

ricky always finds a way to impress. be it his wide range of much-loved covers (everything from bowie to "immigrant song" to the theme from the greatest american hero) or his original masterpieces performed with 70's glam style. i never imagined a one man band could hold my attention for so long, much less keep my booty shakin'. - Unsubscribed , posted 11/22/04 |

Insanely talented artist (his guitarisms will melt your brain--but in a nice, yummy, melodic way) does something I've never seen before--plays guitar, drums, bass and vocals with a blend of T-Rex, Bowie, Zep, Olivia Newton-John and Bee Gees. (my) words can't quite describe. A favorite at Cafe van Kleef, Stork Club, Starry Plough, Oasis and others! He's currently in studio with his 2nd album, but can be coaxed out to perform at some choice spots. - Ali
