It should be called Modern Classical
Yes may be over, due to the health of Steve Howe, who was denied a visa to America, perhaps for past violations.
Their last album, Magnification, needed a full orchestra to replace keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who later returned for three tours, including one with Dream Theatre, before the band broke up. The original Magnification tour utilized each city's symphony orchestras, which was great. The second Yes album, Time and a Word, in 1969, had an orchestra as well, but the band enjoyed the latter effort.
There may have been a last album not yet released, with Wakeman, but as far as I know, the song, Show Me, which is on my blogs, was not yet recorded, but for live recordings.
Chris Squire and Alan White reformed The Syn, without founder of that and Yes, Peter Banks, who is in the band Jabborwocky, with Wakeman's son, Oliver.
Steve Howe reformed Yes, with the Machine Messiah lineup, sans The Buggles, who were part of that, they broke up when Steve was denied a visa, and Steve has returned to form the original Asia, with Geoff Downes, who never left, John Wetton and Carl Palmer.
John Anderson is a surfer in San Luis Obisbo, California and is recording Jan and Dean type surfer music, and playing all of the instruments.
King Crimson decided to release monthly bootlegs, rather than be linked to inferior amatuer attempts.
They would leave the stage midsong when photographed, not to return until the film was visibly destroyed.
They broke into 5 sub groups of the six members from the 1996 return album, Thrak. Then, Bill Bruford and Tony Levin were replaced by Trey Gunn and Pat Mostelotto.
My favorite Crimsons are:
The Cheerful Insanity of Giles, Giles and Fripp (1968)
this was ACTUALLY the first album. The audience dubbed them King Crimson and it stuck. In the next year Greg Lake and Ian McDonald (Foreigner) joined, and the official first album, In the Court of the Crimson King was released.
Wake of the Poseidon
Also featured Greg Lake and McDonald, with Pete Sinfield lyrics.
Red
with John Wetton, David Cross and Bill Bruford
Beat
with Adrian Belew and Tony Levin
and Thrak
U.K.'s third album may never get out of litigation, with Mel Collins replacing Terry Bozzio on percussion. John Wetton and Eddie Jobson's relationship currently may shed light on the delay...
Gentle Giant is releasing music strictly through their website, and have released a boxed set of rare and unreleased material.
Genesis saw Peter Gabriel and Steve Hackett leave once again and are now beginning a tour with the classic three man lineup.
I love
Trespass
Foxtrot
Nursery Crime
The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
and
The album titled Genesis,
with Home by the Sea and Mama.
ELP may or may not return. Greg Lake is touring Europe and producing The Who. Wouldn't it be grand for Lake and Palmer to join The Who, along with Mr. Lake as a backup band to Pete and Roger?
Mr. Lake and Mr. Emerson's relationship may shed light on the ELP situation.
Rush,
had a double tragedy in their membership, with the deaths of drummer Neil Peart's wife and daughter. Neil toured the country to get away, and wrote three books, one was his recollections of his favorite music, and one I believe, was his memoirs of the country he toured. A couple of years later, Vapor Trails was released.
Neil was in a band called Hush, before Rush. They were named after the Deep Purple song, but only played Who songs.
When Fly by Night, the first hit was released, the radio DJ announced it as the new Led Zeppelin song, which gave Rush instant attention.
Geddy Lee's name was Gary, but his Yiddish mother pronounced it Geddy, and thanks to his friends, it stuck. - (Mr) , posted 10/28/06
