Good bands/music, the rest sucks
I'm surprised by the amount of unnecessary bullshit that people put up with at Popscene.

1. Unprofessional Asshole Bouncers. Sure, bouncers are a necessary evil, but I've seen these guys "intervene" totally unprovoked, unwarranted, and out-of-proportion. Basically, no dancing during a live show.

2. Doors open @ 9:00. They should clarify that this does not mean that they actually start letting people in at 9, but you can stand outside and look at the "open doors" till 10:00. Other reviewers have written about waiting in line for over an hour and a half, then... " when 20 people from the front, the show sells out. " I've seen other clubs at least attempt to address this issue by having an employee count back from the front of the line by the number of tickets left. Then tell those folks that they are out of luck. But then, it's awesome to see ( and have other people see ) the long line snaking outside of your bar.

3. The fucking back-bar pours [once] carbonated mixers out of plastic mixer bottles made for non-carbonated mixers. Then, they still charge $ 8 for a premium liquor that they have just ruined.

4. The huge pole center stage, just down in the audience.

And what's up with all this 18-21 vs. 21+ vibe ? I actually don't pick-up on much of this at the club. But, I'm not out there crusin' 18 year old girls, (or boys for that matter.) You live in San Fran-fucking-cicso !!!lighten up, if you think an older guy or woman is hot, go for it. If not, don't worry they don't bite.

Most of the non-bouncer staff is pretty cool, they should go work at a more professional establishment.

After seeing the Horrors there on tuesday ( great show except that they had to play at Popscene and the show was really short ), I don't think I'll be going back unless it's someone I absolutely HAVE to see. - Calvin , posted 06/22/07

Poopscene
You go for the music. If you're into indie/brit pop/shoegazer etc. it's great. Being 18+ makes the crowd type unpredictable and at times you might find yourself wadding through nicotine stained hipster sweat. The times are usually more good than bad. - Rachel , posted 08/05/05

Popscene at 330 Ritch
Popscene (hosted at 330 Ritch Street--between Brannan and Townsend) is 18 and up, and has Indie- and Alt-music... a good amount of Brit-pop. It's draws a good crowd of fun, intelligent people.

And now that I look at their website, quite sadly I've missed seeing the Lovemakers this past Thursday.

Place to BE SEEN as opposed to just hang
I love Britpop, and I love to dance...but being a 32 year old gal surrounded by barely 18 year old hipster mod babes can be a bit daunting. The music is killer, but forget trying to have a conversation while the DJ is spinning -- they really crank up the speakers. If you're in the mod scene, then this is your place to show off. If you just want to grab a pint and mellow, move on. - Bonnie , posted 12/23/04

if only
330 rich is a cool space. The 18+ thing is a little rough, tho. - Eileen , posted 11/18/04

Dance to Britpop, Indie, New Wave etc. at Popscene (330 Ritch)
Thursday nights are "Popscene" at 330 Ritch. This club is so fun! Lots of up and coming bands played here (Muse, the Killers, Snow Patrol) and some (and I mean this in the most endearing way - I love these two bands so don't send me any hate mail) "has beens" from back in the day (Cardigans, Trash Can Sinatras). This place is so intimate, I've even met a few bands here.
The dj's play awesome music like britpop, indie, "modern rock" from the 80's and such. This place is 18+ but that doesn't stop 21 + hipsters from coming here. Tell your boss you'll be in late to work on Friday and go! - Julia , posted 10/15/04
