WHAT A SOUND!!
These guys are freaking awesome!! I love seeing them live. They are very entertaining, they have a cool sound, they are not snobby like some of those other bands out there.

They will talk to the "people" and interact in between acts, they don't just shrug off their fans.

They play some interesting and really rock songs that will sometimes take you by surprise. Also they always look good on stage. A great stage presence is very key to success and these guys got it... And how many bands around have a pair of mandolins playing in it? Talk about variety, the members often switch off instruments, that hot singing chic plays like 10 different instruments during a set!

I highly recommend seeing these guys!! - Tony , posted 05/20/06

They bristle with greatness!
I never miss a P-Katz show. These musicians keep getting better and better. Their infectious, eccentric folksey rock gets the floor quaking every time. Not many bands can take the audience to multitudes of levels like they can. From jubilant thrashing to hormonious enchantment, their sets grapple the attention and don't let you go until you've bought them whiskey in an act of gratitude. No longer just a group of friends, these guys are a core group of professional musicians that have their shit together. They've created a following that they justly deserve. And for God's sake. Even if you don't like their music, just come to see Megan in platform boots. It's worth the price of the Jameson's. - Chad , posted 06/11/05

Catch them now...
... before they get famous and forget us.

I've seen a lot of bar bands. Plasterkatz is the first one I've thought had any chance of going anywhere.

I'll finally be able to say, "Plasterkatz? Oh yeah, I know them. Seen most of them naked."

Plasterkatz!
Okay, so maybe I'm biased, too, but . . . What other group in the world would let me pick up a microphone and sing? The mantra, 'I'm an instrumentalist, not a singer' keeps popping through my head, and yet here I am, singing AND playing instruments for a band that has such an amazing sound. I love these guys way more than I should. - Megan , posted 03/15/05

A Powerhouse of Talent...that is PLASTERKATZ!
Plasterkatz keeps their audience engaged by letting them in on the obvious blast they are having on stage. The few cover songs they perform are laced with a unique PK flavahhhhhh. They captivate their audience with a variety of instrument solos sprinkled through the show, raunchy-rock rhythms, astonishing lyrics, trippy hippy sounds, punked-out traditional tunes that start mosh-pits, alternative chick tunes that scream for audience participation, etc.

I guarantee that you will enjoy their shows and the company they bring to the venue. Each gig is a super-spectacular, five-star experience!!

more fun than a music hall full of muppets!
imagine, the finale of a really great film where you came to love each cast member/character during an exhilarating ride through the plot. at the end everyone shows up and has a monster jam, crammed into a teeny stage (there's enough of them that any stage looks teeny) and belting out singalong songs that rock as well as gather you in a big group hug at the same time.

they are the muppets on mushrooms, the view through a kaleidoscope at a gypsy campground. if the night forgot that it had a curfew it would party and carry on like a plasterkatz show. - damien , posted 12/31/04

Plasterkatz!!! 1 fun band!
A GREAT fun band!

I've seen them do several shows - Ireland's 32 SF, Old Rogue - SF, but I thought I would do a review of their show at Expressions New Media Center. This is a "music" school where students are taught music event production. Plasterkatz did a perfermance showcase that was also a chance for several students of the camera, mixingboard, lighting & even online webcasting got a chance to make recorded performance. They performed for about 25-30 friends and it was a great show. They played mostly originals with a cover or two mashed up in their tunes. It's a great fun combo of folk-pop rock that gets yah dancing in the aisles. Too bad no pints were being served, but the flask a friend snuck in toped off the show. Now if we can only get them to finish editing the footage/sound from that event, you folks just might be able to purchase a DVD from them.

Keep the music flowing guys, I've loved every show I came to see. - iMosaicmix ♪ , posted 12/31/04

Gather together for lots of goodhearted merriment
Simple Pleasures is a little tea room in my Outer Richmond neighborhood where people just mellow out and visit. Every now and then my neighbor, "Evil Chris" Barnes, and his new band, a group of naughty and nice musicians called Plasterkatz would put on a fun show of naughty and nice tunes.

They've since moved on to bigger venues such as the Old Rogue, Edinburgh Castle, The Hotel Utah Saloon, Blake's on Telegraph in the East Bay. And ~ the drink isn't tea anymore!

Plasterkatz still plays the great old tunes and many of their original compositions. Their style has morphed somewhat to include lots of blues and rockin' dancing numbers. The audience, an eclectic group themselves, comes together in goodhearted merriment. The evening ends much too soon.

I'll be there at Edinburgh Castle tomorrow night for the Plasterkatz, Crumpled Napkin, and other artists show. Hope to see you there too.

An early and ardent fan, Annabella.

Loking Forward to More
During the Kerry Presidential Campaign, I caught Plasterkatz at the Hotel Utah. They were good, but you could see that although they had potential, they needed some work.

I was fortunate to visit Plasterkatz' latest show at Irelands 32 on Christmas Eve-Eve. Well, you could see that they had put in some hard work and it was really paying off. They were fabulous!

The music of Plasterkatz is eclectic: Ancient folk tunes updated with newer instruments, Blues, Pop, Old favorites, Covers of other artists' work, and their own excellent original compositions.
The band members play with the usual array of instruments as well as mandolins, bodran, harmonica, penny whistle and recorder, etc.. They're developing their own distinctive style.

The mood changes from tune to tune, a little sad with the blues, wistfulness with some of the ancient tunes, and lots of humming along and toe tapping to all-out dancing with the rock'n'roll. But the overall mood is joyous.

They attract a really nice group of people.

I heartily recommend that you seek out any opportunity to join in the fun. I will.

PlasterKatz Rocks- Especially the Drummer!
Plasterkatz is a collage of talented musicians whose energy and ability to write and perform astounds me. I have been surprised by their quick development and attribute it to the chemistry and friendship between the members, their talent as individuals and their love of music. I have seen most of their shows and always enjoy myself. The band, while great, still has some room to grow. I think when they find their groove, they will make it big. A little hard work has gone a long way. I am glad to know each of the members, especially the drummer, who is hot and good in bed. - Jules , posted 12/28/04

Plasterkatz mix it up
This band has the full spectrum of "old school". Bringing in a unique blend of musical styles, they manage to create a high-energy rock feel with old folk music, blues standards and new singer-songwriter ballads. Their live shows really dish up a full spectrum, going from tear-jerking sentimental songs to full-on mosh pit rockers. As yet unsigned, I expect we'll be hearing more about these guys. - Bryn , posted 12/28/04

One Happy Mama!
Hi everybody -

I'm "Evil" Chris' mom. I'm really a good woman and he was a good boy. Just look at that sweet face. He must have fallen in with the wrong crowd when he left New York City and moved to Callifornia.

I was looking forward to being at a Plasterkatz performance when I visited last Summer. But, the possibility of an East Bay show just didn't materialize. (My crazy California relatives just won't go over bridges or through tunnels!) I was very disappointed.

Then, I was able to catch the Plasterkatz Webcast. Whew! What a relief! You know, mothers do worry about the company their kids keep.

I was so happy to see that Plasterkatz was REALLY REALLY GOOD!!! I knew that Chris was good! But now I knew that he was with a group of very talented musicians who played such a variety of instruments, styles and tunes - many of them great original material. I loved it!!! My favorite is "The City is a River".

The audience loved them too and they were groovin' and having a blast! And Plasterkatz' music was getting better and better as the show continued.

I love to see my Chris having a good time and spreading his good vibes. It does my heart good to see that the musicians in Plasterkatz really enjoy themselves and their audiences too.

I'm looking forward to seeing the whole Plasterkatz band on my next visit to San Francisco.

I'm telling you this is one happy Mama!

A true original
More and more it seems music these days is focused to fewer and fewer people, sub-sub-genres carved out of the once big roof of alternative. Sometimes you're not interested in arguing the merits of new-grass versus grindcore, you just want to listen to some rock 'n' roll; unfortunately that's where you usually get reminded to what we needed an alternative, rock so generic that it seems like the big studios share one band and just make up new names and album covers as needed.

At this point you need to get out and check out a Plasterkatz show, a band that never met a genre they didn't like, mixing adapted covers and original works into a wide open classic-prog-roots-folk-celtic-kitchen sink rock. In the hands of lesser musicians this might turn into a case of mixing all the colors together to get brown, but the multi-instrumental Plasterkatz build new musical structures onto a solid rock 'n' roll foundation and create a roof big enough for everybody who just wants to hear some great music. - Jesse , posted 12/23/04

totally rocks!

The first time I saw this band I was on a weekend trip that had been going all wrong. I feeling funky and sleepy, but I dragged my butt out to see them due to all the nice things I had heard about them. The friend I brought didn't want to leave our hotel room (her boyfriend was staying in) and when I was getting ready to leave by myself she felt guilty and mustered enough energy to get her butt in gear to go too. WERE WE GLAD WE WENT! Once we got there our energy level bounced right up because the band rocked out. We were both really glad we didn't just call it a night and not go because we would have really missed out on some great music and fun.
My friend was so moved by the band's performance and the atmosphere of the show she wrote them a letter on the back of their mailing list! and quickly talked to each member of the group to tell them in person what a wonderful show they put on.

Another thing that is so great about the band is the crowd it attracts. They audience is always so lively, friendly and fun!

I've brought at least a dozen different people to shows of the last 6 months and everone of them had a blast!

Plasterkatz has quickly become one of my favorite bands to see live! - Twinkle , posted 12/06/04

See Plasterkatz - and bring people whom you wish to impress with your good taste in music.
Go see Plasterkatz, you'll love it! A typical night with Plasterkatz includes them playing a coherent set or three, with a variety of musical styles mixed and meshed to create a beautiful rockin' atmosphere with a unique sound (including mandolins). And don't even get me started on the harmonica - my knees get weak!

With a great combination of thoughtful yet fun original music and classic covers, with folk and Irish tunes and good old rock and roll, PK always gets the place moving and smiling. There are always some people who simply can't resist the urge to get up and dance! What are you waiting for? Join in! - Ivan , posted 12/05/04
