I really want to eat here often because it's cheap and quick and fairly tasty. But their health code violations are egregious. The city should just close the place and remove my temptation. - davel , posted 04/16/06 |

this tastes so good and woodsy. it's got so much flavor of buttery leafy flavor. i like eating it when the dusk is on. - Unsubscribed , posted 05/26/05 |

Seriously though...it's so delicious. Paneer Tikka Masala and Saag Paneer are both excellent.... I don't like their new paintjob and lighting however (too much light!!)....I miss the old ceilings covered up by big scarfy thingees. - Myrfy , posted 05/19/05 |

Pakwan is neither the best nor the worst indian place I've been to. It's tasty, the seasoning is on target but not anything to write home about. Better than Maharajah by a long shot. Not as good as Indian Oven, by a long shot. - Channing , posted 04/04/05 |

It's reasonably priced Packie food. Lamb Kabob is a little dry, Chicken Masala is good. Great Garlic Naan. I love the pudding and Mango Lassi. It doesn't have the best atmosphere but for the price you can't beat this self serve eatery. - Pete , posted 01/26/05 |

Man they scream in that microphone. It's scary. After 15min spent in there you want to run out. Food's not bad. Regular cheap indian restaurant. Nothing exciting. - mad , posted 01/25/05 |

I love this place because they actually make non-spicy Indian food instead of SAYING they will do it and then trick you and kill you like everywhere else... thank you Pakwan - Maryline

Yummy, non pretentious, and clean (my sensitive stomach never complained). Addictive too...try the Tikka Massala. - Dana , posted 11/16/04 |

**UPDATE** Please see the SF Health Department's ratings for Pakwan at www.sfdph.org/eh/Violatio...oc_dist5.asp (This site has all of the health inspections for Mission District restaurants.) As of the most recent health inspection, Pakwan scored a paltry 76/100 and the violations included ADULTERATED FOOD - Immediate Risk, not maintained clean, food storage- improperly covered/labeled, and RODENTS - Immediate Risk. Please, please, guys, please don't gamble with your health. It's not worth it. Rasoi, an Indian restaurant up the street on Valencia at 21st street, has a score of 91/100 and no violations. Or Maharaja, which has a perfect 100 with no violations. Patronize places that deserve your business. Mission District Pakwan Yes, so this was one of my very favorite restaurants. Then I went there with my partner and he ordered a dish with meat in it (vegetarians don't get food poisoning as often, fact of life) and he was up all night vomiting up his dinner. And we had a studio apartment, and a guest spending the night, so we could hear the yakking all too vibrantly. Needless to say none of us will eat there anymore. Did a little google homework, and turns out they "used" to have a rat problem. - Anne , posted 06/02/05 |

This cheap eat is excellent. I don't think I've had any bad meals here. The saag dahl is awesome. I think this is a wonderful place for vegetarians who still eat dairy. :) The naan can't be beat too. - Joan , posted 10/18/04 |

...The Bihari kabab is the best this side of the Gangotri :-) And this is from a native that likes her meat. The closest thing to Lucknowi Kacche Kabab for those that know their kababs. The 'Loin location makes it differently (still tasty but not as special) - Maya , posted 10/18/04 |
