A Great way to get Cool Glasses
This is the first place I've been to that lets me shop for glasses the way I shop for clothes. I have three, soon to be four pairs from them. They have probably one of the most interesting selections in the city, along with Through The Hayes, where I get my eyes examined, which I also reccomend.

The trick to getting what you want there is to look at buying glasses the way you would buy clothes or shoes or jewelry. Its a great place to go in and browse and not buy anything until you "Just have to have it" and its gone down to the right price. I'm always checking out the $10 frames and I'm waiting on a pair of sunglasses from that selection now. The only bummer is when you see glasses that you went ahead and bought at a higher price go on sale, but the same is true of clothes or shoes.

I should mention this is a great store for people who really love wearing glasses, and enjoy shopping for glasses. Which is perfect for me, but if you are just looking for a basic pair as a backup to contacts, its probably not for you. - onlineAngry Butterfly , posted 04/13/07

Great Resource
I rather like this store too - I can usually find a pair or two at discount. They have made a mistake before on my glasses but they have corrected it quickly and so I wasn't too bent out of shape. I have gotten something like 3 pairs here already and would go back here any day over chain store like Site for Sore Eyes - Mystique , posted 06/05/06

Awesome selection, totally affordable
I love this place. They have an incredible range of frames that you won't find anywhere else and they are cheap. They are also locally owned and staffed with friendly people.

I choose to buy my frames there and get my lenses elsewhere, cause I have insurance and they don't accept insurance cause they are already dirt cheap. Many say there lenses are slow... so go somewhere else. You aren't going to find cool glasses for cheaper. - Barb , posted 05/03/05

the Worst service
I had them replace my lenses to update my prescription on a pair of glasses I bought there. I hesitated to do so because their service had been so bad, but they were slightly cheaper than some other places.

They promised they'd be ready by a certain day, and not only did they miss the deadline, they couldn't find my file. When the lenses finally arrived, almost three weeks later, one lense had the wrong prescription (incorrectly noted by the manager).

Now, a year and two mos. later, the coating is coming off one of the lenses, making them impossible to use, and oops, the warranty for coating is 1 yr. I've never had coating strip away from any of my glasses, and I've been wearing 'em since I was little (about 20 yrs.)!

They suck. What little discount they offer isn't worth it. Try "eye gotcha" on castro street instead. - wendy , posted 05/01/05

Spiffy Eyewear, Inexpensive Prices...
...and the catch?
They're entirely independent. Meaning that they don't have a gigantic staff and offer "your glasses in 30 minutes or they're free!"....which also means that, quite often, you have to wait a few days (or a week) in order to pick them up. [[That's the bit that kept them from being tippy-top rated in my book]]....
The staff, especially the head sales associate Bill (or manager, I'm not positive)--is patient, flexible, and looks out for not only what might compliment your face the best, but also reminds you of what frames have the steepest price cuts going on. ((After a frame has entered their store, they sysematically drop prices every few months...and keep doing so until it reaches the 10-or-20$ rack)). I've purchsesd four frames there @ pretty-damn-sexy prices, have gone back to have my frames "re-adjusted" or with a minor complaint and have correspondingly received outstanding response and customer service.

**also there's a $25 bucks-off coupon available on their website**

Pros: great service, a moderate selection spanning a decently wide range (including "hep" and "borderline-hep") frames. many excellent prices on frames.
If you DON'T have insurance ((which I don't)) the costs of lenses are about average for single vision (glass or plastic)...the add-ons do just that (scrach/uv=$20 and so on)...

Cons: No examination available on premises.
The 5 day wait.
also: No Cartier or Dolce&Gabbana frames @ last check...um, if that's your sort of a "con"

**Bit of History: The business, which used to major in watch and glasses repair, has been run by the same family since thee olde San Francisky days of yore (3 generations me-thinks). - Alicia , posted 04/20/05

great selection, cheap prices
They really have very cool glasses, lots of high end brands, great colors and styles. Plus, the longer a pair sits in the store without being sold, the more money they take off the price. - celtic zengirl , posted 04/20/05
