Thanks Keith, that's really sweet of you
Wow, that's some review Keith. I'm sorry you felt way. I found you very frustrating. You were 45 minutes late for your first lesson, but I gave you as much extra time as I could before the next person showed up. I thought you were going to get a lot out of the lessons in a short time, but then it seemed by the second lesson that all you wanted to do was film my hands instead of listening, digesting the information and then asking questions. You're right, you *should* get what you want out of a lesson, if what you want is to *learn*. But you were not getting the concepts, because you were too busy with the camera. Rather than the concentration being on *you*, it was on *me*. My teaching method is to work *with* someone until *they* get it, not pose for the camera. If you know what is best, why take lessons? Why not just rent some videos? I tried to explain all of this, and thought we had moved past it, but yet here you are slamming me. I teach 5 days a week ( and have for 13 years ) because I am dedicated to teaching. I have had many, many, students over the years and have enjoyed their lessons as much as they have. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, I can tell you really want to learn, but I think you may be your own worst enemy. - fillmo , posted 06/18/07

good teacher and good guy
I have been taking lessons with Mike for a few months and I am very pleased with him as a teacher and as a person. I had never played the guitar before and I have been very happy with my progress and the instructional tempo. It seems that Mike is always pushing me to get better. He is very personable, knowledgeable and laid back. His studio is funky and comfortable, his collection immense and his instruction is very approachable. - Steve , posted 06/05/07

NOT RECOMMENDED
I paid this guy for 4 lessons when I took my 1st lesson. I could NOT tolerate this guy and his ego/attitude. He's arrogant and thinks he's the teaching god or something. I wanted to record my lessons for repetitive review for the following week...he always gave me grief about it and by the 3rd lesson he almost flat out said NO to me....I'm thinkin to myslf "I'M THE STUDENT...you know, the one WITH THE MONEY...that PAYING YOU, I should reasonibly get what I want with out any effin grief about it from some egocentric arse...( I’ve taken lessons before too…recorded every damn one of them…but this tool wants to dictate to me what I can and can not record to practice...from what HE'S SHOWING ME....IN THE LESSON ANYWAY!!!???) UGGG, I couldn't stand this guy/ And there I was driving an hour each way to see this guy. Argumentative as hell too… had one of those, "my way or the highway" attitudes and tones in his voice. I just couldn't tolerate the guy...I wanted to smack him after the 3rd lesson and almost walked out then.... I just let him keep the money for the 4th lesson and never went back. If you can’t tolerate an arrogant, egocentric, control freak…do NOT go to this guy. So he's Berklee trained...so are others....that aren't such a pain in the arse. it's gone to his head or something. - Keith , posted 12/12/06

Massive record collection, good teaching style
I was Mike's student for over a year, I think, maybe two? This was 4 years ago, and it was great. He had a massive record collection for digging up any style of music I wanted to learn, and we would deconstruct the guitar parts, even slowing them down to learn it. It's good to know what you want to learn before heading in there, it worked best that way.

Big thumbs up. - Bergen - Uncle , posted 11/13/06

Good guitar teacher
Berklee School of music graduate - very easy-going and personable - explains difficult concepts in a way that makes it easy to understand. Not sure if he does house calls though... - Victor , posted 11/11/04
