i have seen about fifteen michael franti shows (or more?) in the past two years and i gotta say, it's a fun show and uplifting and soulful, but it's the same damn show... night after night after night. i wound up vending on the big summer classic tour and franti's set was always a popular and fun one, but he really needs to vary his setlists to play on the circuit he's playing on for the simple reason that the template for the jam circuit was created by the grateful dead and where setlist variety is concerned, we were all spoiled by jerry... after the grateful dead and jerry band, it's hard to go on a tour (any tour) and expect to be wowed night after night after night. most musicians simply don't have the repetoire and franti is among the worst offenders on the "jam" circuit... still franti's always had a way with words... disposable heroes of hiphoprisy... "television... the drug of the nation... breeding ignorance and feeding radiation..." he knows how to cut through the bs and say what's on his mind and say it well... i'd rank it somewhere between three and four stars, but since three and half ain't an option, i'll put three... - Shady , posted 12/16/06 |

I LOVE the message in his music and I find it inspiring and I don't care if he is a Bob Marley "wannabe" or a jesus "wannabe"......we all wannabe someone who makes a difference in the world don't we? Let's focus on the positive . - Unsubscribed , posted 12/16/06 |

franti has lost himself in trying to become an image, a symbol. his music is derivative, and his history going from a chuck d wannabe to a bob marley wannabe still makes him a wannabe. too bad, because i think he's a very decent man who would have a lot to share if he'd lose the ego. - blue-j , posted 12/16/06 |

I don't know about Jesus- he was simply a good Jew that lived a long time ago- but definately a Prophet - just listen to what he's saying. Then again music isn't supposed to have a message and make you thing anymore, just make you back that ass up... - Dr. Michael , posted 12/16/06 |

man, are you guys for real? Some of his music's good, and his band is great. But the guy himself is a head-swollen egomaniac.... at Earthdance he played the same thing on his acoustic guitar for 20 MINUTES while his band sat around so he could ramble on about how he walked through the streets of Iraq with his guitar and the kids followed him around... c'mon Michael you're not Jesus. (people at that show who had seen him a lot recently said he did that at EVERY SHOW) Give his band 5 stars, his music, his CD, whatever... but the guy is no 5-star dude. I don't often say that someone is my hero, but Michael Franti is in the category for me. I do not put him up on a pedestal or anything like that. I just simply love and appreciate everything he stands for. He has such an incredible dedication to things that are important to him. And he has more energy than anyone I can think of! The man is filled with love, kindness and good vibes. - Tree , posted 12/15/06 |

Every one has their personal tastes so I don't often say "hey you've gotta hear this" but man, Michael Franti is THE exception. Balanced and powerful music shot through with a heavy dose of creative magic. - Susan , posted 12/15/06 |

I have seen him live and he can reallygalvanize and unify an audience. Spearhead is an amazing live show and Michael is a very dedicated artist. He gives a great Yoga session as well! - catt , posted 12/15/06 |
