Dave Mustaine still rocks.
Megadeth has always been reliable for a certain power vibe. This album does not veer from that at all. The riffs are obviously meant to blow you away - as far as that's possible any more. For me, that's the important part. Bring me some power, some aggressive and interesting guitar progressions. Megadeth has done that time and again, and this album reinforces that.

Right from the gate, the shredding begins. Dave seems to be rotating shred partners these days. I think Chris Broderick is the 3rd co-guitarist in as many albums. The skill shines thru immediately. But Dave's vibe dominates. The power is there, as before. The varied and frenzied riff changes still excite. Lyrics aside, the metal guitar work here is superb (I don't usually listen to what's said until the vibe of the song brings me back for a 4th or 5th time).

I gave this album only 3 stars because it's becoming common to hear a decent Megadeth album. If I wasn't a huge fan of "Peace Sells", or "Rust In Peace" - this might be epic. But as a jaded Megadeth fan, this is just another stalwart effort that pulls me to the near-extinct record store.

If you're a Megadeth fan, go buy this CD. If you're just learning of Dave Mustaine and his magic, buy "Rust in Peace" - still his best effort as far as I'm concerned - and then this one as a follow-up. - Smeeed , posted 09/17/09
