Great Pizza, Cool Staff
I've always loved Lanesplitter, but it was only recently that I moved right behind their Berkeley location (the one on the intersection of San Pablo and University).
I know my pizza pretty darn well; pizza is one of the staples of my vegetarian diet. About a week or so ago, my friend and I ordered one of their 15" pies (takeout) to satisfy some late-night munchies.
It was the first time that I noticed that Lanesplitter uses two ovens, halfway through the cooking process they take the pie from one and put it into the other. Curious, I asked the guy who was cooking our pie what the second oven was for, not really expecting him to say anything.
Boy, was I wrong. This guy launched into a whole explanation as to why they used two different ovens, the cooking process, etc. It was clear that he knew his stuff, and that he really loved working there. I was impressed.
Now I make it a point to hit up Lanesplitters whenever I get the craving for a thin-slice pie. I really appreciate the fact that their cooks know their stuff, and obviously care about their craft. I highly recommend this pizza joint.
