Good Tea
The tea is the best Ive had, depending on what you get. green/white/oolong teas are goooood. good desserts too, and open late i believe. - Evan , posted 04/24/06

they also have good soups!
Good place to go with all the girlfriends. Sometimes I'm surprised to see guys there. I don't know that people really go there for tea; I myself go for their tasty soups. Less than $5 for a big bowl (well, if you're a girl). In the evenings, though, the student crowd descends and take up all the tables with their laptops and textbooks, which tends to downgrade the ambience. - Wella , posted 01/08/06

my friend and I especially like the boba
L'Amyx has really delicious boba (sometimes called tapioca) drinks - to me they taste delicate, not crazily artificial like most boba mixes are. - meagan , posted 01/20/05

Not as pretentious as it looks from the outside...
Decent, if not particularly exceptional, teas and comfortable atmosphere with (at least when I've been there) a minimum of that off-putting "East Bay smug" in the air. Caveat is that it can get a bit loud and bit echoey even when not packed... a little discreet acoustic flocking on the ceilings would do wonders. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/15/04

Great place to impress your tea loving friends from out of town
Also a great place to sit down and have some quiet time with a nice cup of tea and your laptop. Lamyx is almost a rituation for my wife and I after our nightly walks. - onlinekris , posted 10/14/04

Great Neighborhood Tea House...
A comfortable place to hang out on Piedmont Avenue. They have a wonderful selection of hot and cold tea (with the tapioca balls & thick straws!). Casual, calm surroundings with a lot of locals reading, talking, and sipping tea. 4179 Piedmont Avenue. - Leese , posted 10/13/04

Nice Zen Alternative
Lamyx tea bar, across from the Piedmont Theater, is a great alternative to the more bustling cafes and restaurants on the Ave. Although it does lack a bit of ambience, the tea selection is great and it's never too crowded to relax or chat or meet someone new. - J , posted 10/08/04

I love this tea bar/cafe
This is a really nice tea bar with small food items as well as sandwiches to keep you busy during those long study hours or while reading. The only thing I don't like is that you can't actually plug your laptop because the outlets are closed off and the seats could use some cushioning. Otherwise they are great and open late hours. - S , posted 10/07/04

Late-night tea
In the land of Starbucks and Peet's, it's amazing to know that there's still a local tea shop that does bang-up business. L'Amyx is comfy and yet very trendy, always crammed with students and open very late. Oh, and the carrot cake - to die for! - Julie , posted 10/07/04

Decent enough tea
I made the mistake of bringing my British friend Geddy here. The whole time it was, "You yanks call this English Breakfast? Maybe IRISH breakfast..." This gets old even faster than you think.

But if you aren't entertaining a buddy from the old country, the Lamyx (or the "Lam," as the locals call it) is a fine place to hang out and drink tea. It's steeped in a personal teapot you can bring to your table.

I'm definitely going back to the Lam. Definitely alone. - Dan , posted 10/07/04
