Totally Unique, Nourishing, Uplifting Experience (and that's not just the food!)
Every Saturday from 5 to 10 pm, you owe it to your better self to pay a visit to the Karma Kitchen!!

The fixed menu changes slightly every week, but is always a vegetarian, Nepali-style thaali plate. I have only been once, but will certainly be back! Extremely good food, phenomenal naan, lip-smacking lassis, divine desserts (kheer & summer-berry pie).

The food is enough of a reason to go. But the true identity of Karma Kitchen is as a mind-expanding experiment in generosity. You can read more on their website about the history and background of the Kitchen, but basically it is a volunteer run evening of serving and gifting with no set exchange value. Meaning that at the end of the meal each table gets an envelope with *more* gifts in it, and has the opportunity to repay the kindness however they see fit. Meaning that dining at Karma Kitchen is about the conversations you will have with your servers and other guests, about the baffled and speechless feeling you may get when you realize this is for real, about the way you'll walk out of the restaurant feeling that much brighter, lighter, thinking that maybe, just maybe, every moment is really an opportunity to increase the amount of love & generosity in the world...

In summary: everyone should know about Karma Kitchen! And everyone should go! And pay it forward! :) - Glossolalia , posted 06/27/07
