Just got done reading this book on a recent trip to Europe it rocked! Joel Spolsky has a very entertaining style for telling insightful stories. Even the most technical descriptions were digestible by the non-initiated. He also throws in lots of excellent information on the business of software issues which developers should really take in as part of their greater understanding of the issues that come with developing applications for sale. The two chapters I enjoyed the most were "The Joel Test: 12 Steps to Better Code" and "The Guerilla Guide to Interviewing". His experiences at Microsoft and Juno Online serve him well as fodder to draw from when presenting examples, and the current challenges he faces with his current company, Fog Creek Software provide some invaluable perspectives as he explains real life challenges he and his company have to deal with. - P-Air , posted 02/20/06 |
