Shocking!
A must-see movie! Very disturbing and frightful. The documentary doesn't really take sides, but lets the people damn themselves. You really feel for the poor, brainwashed kids... Lots of therapy in their near future... - ~tommy , posted 01/25/07

training for the army of god
this film is showing at the embarcadero cinema in san francisco.

i went to see it last week, after coming across it on the internet and i was surprised at how good it was. its been a while since something has made my skin crawl that way.

the film shows the week long experience of a handful of evangelical children as they prepare to go visit the Kids On Fire bible camp run by Becky Fischer in North Dakota. It is chilling to watch this woman, who obviously cares about the children and has a natural gift for communicating with them, brainwash them with the consent of their parents, into the type of extremism we see in third world child armies. they are told to fight a war for god, and to discount science, evolution and global warming as untruths, and to bless President Bush and his administration as the protector or the christian people in our "one nation under god." I kept shaking my head through the film, wondering out loud how someone could be so right in her methods, and so very wrong in the intention behind them. Asked to defend her beliefs, she just smiles and laughs, saying "we have the truth", which apparently grants christians the right to rule the world.

i know that the people in this film are not indicative of the majority of christians, but the evangelical movement has a power and breadth in this country that is starting to make them a force to be taken into consideration. They are organized and rabid in their plans to change the world, fighting a war that could stand to consume this country and the world. it makes me wonder if maybe we shouldnt be doing something to counter act it before its too late. - Layil , posted 10/03/06
