Great chai latte, comfortably chic crowd with ample grey matter, friendly staff that seems to truly care about the customers, honest prices. And a good selection of food, wow! Not small, but not large enough for a few couches, which along with the electcical outlet situation, is my only dis on the place. Almost perfect! - Brian , posted 03/13/06 |

As a longtime Gaylord's patron, I highly recommend it for the atmosphere. The staff plays good music (lots of '80s), the artwork on the walls is usually amateurish and yet interesting enough to check out, and their menu offers a lot more than you'd expect. They have salad, ice cream, orange juice. My favorite thing about Gaylord's is that they're open on Thanksgiving morning. - Wella , posted 01/08/06 |

I don't even call it Gaylord's anymore, I just call it "the cafe". I've been going there for almost 5 years off and on and 2 years steady now. There is no other place like it. - Chris , posted 06/29/05 |

...this is where I usually go. It's a drive from there, but I really love the tasty DECAF! The atmosphere is nice and somehow all the people there are very hot. :) - Polly , posted 02/25/05 |

Gaylords, on Piedmont Ave in Oakland, serves up delectable coffe/espresso drinks, ice cream and pastries. Lots of humor and originality as well as latte art- the froth end sin a heart or leaf on top. You can sit and play Pacman at atable arcade game while drinking your creamy concotion out of a warm glass. It's open until 11PM. Always a good crowd, and some of the same people every night. - Hugnluv , posted 10/07/04 |

This is a great coffee shop on Piedmont Ave, a nice bastion of alterna-life in the yuppiefied area. All of the counter folk are a little left of center, they're fast & friendly, and the coffee is EXCELLENT and not too overpriced. It's a great atmosphere to hang out, meet people, watch people, or just get your coffee fix & run. The Mexican hot chocolate is excellent, one of the few coffee shops I've found that serves it. The place is always busy, so good luck finding a table. Make friends with the person next to you! :-) - Brody , posted 10/07/04 |

The good coffee is always served with a bit of an edge here, and people love it. When Starbucks opened across the street, people rallied and they keep coming and supporting the independent cafe. Gaylord's is the perfect hodgepodge that the Piedmont Ave. area has to offer, even as sometime pick-up joint. The food is good too. - J , posted 10/07/04 |

Their drinks are great, service super. Sometimes the teenagers take it over, but what else are they going to do? If you get annoyed by those who are pretty hip then stay away, but if you're in the mood to do some studying and good people watching, check it out. They know how to make good espresso drinks. - Star , posted 10/07/04 |

What can I say about it? The coffee is great, the lighting is perfect for the fast rotation of art on show, and they have vegan cookies. It's not too social and not too staunchy. The background music is neither boring, nor intoxicating. This is one of the few cafes that you can really sit and read a book, while waiting for a flick up the street before your date at a fine restaurant on the next block. The neighborhood and the cafe co-exist very well, despite the corporate competition. It's a fixture. - Eryn! , posted 10/07/04 |

I was lucky enough to live just up the street from Gaylord's for a few years, and made it a regular part of my weekend routine. Now it is again, because it is almost completely consistent, very good to excellent coffee, and has in addition a very friendly atmosphere, from the general feel of the space to the many, many regulars and barristas. Food is quite good too, and they serve Double Rainbow gelato (and even make real milkshakes, or wake-up shakes with espresso added). They've been there since 1976 and seem to be holding ground against the Starbucks which invaded right across the street a couple of years ago. A great local spot. - Reed , posted 10/06/04 |
