but I'm biased
I probably shouldn't say anything as I worked there for six and a half years, but I was a customer there long before I got the job. Love it! And for the person who wished there were used mags, you're totally welcome to read the new ones, just don't spill on them. :) Don't know how I feel about the new cups--got used to the old ones. - Jessica , posted 07/10/06

Longtime fan, never got to know them well
I guess it's an SF thing, but the elitism at Farley's is really the only knock against it. Maybe it comes with the territory. I almost thing Farley's would benefit from a Starf*cks next door (with their own parking lot), to give the clue-free Potrero yuppie population someplace to park their car/mind instead of in the middle of the street while they run in for a shot. Then, just maybe, the Farley's crew would be left with the lovelies who care, and everyone could be open and happy! - Brian , posted 03/13/06

coffee: yes! attitude: not so much!
i have to agree with margaret- they can be a little uppity. bu ti really love the stacks and stacks of sketchbooks filled with drawings by customers. i wish they had used mags to read instead of expensive newbies, but alas, what can you do? - meredith , posted 02/05/06

good coffee, good view... but....
the coffee is good... I like the art, I like that they have lots and lots of magazines, but it never fails that they give me the snotty ass attitude. I don't live in potrero... I'm a messenger, we have clients in the dogpatch, and sometimes I want coffee while standing by. I go there very occasionally, and they're snotty as hell. Might come from being a "neighborhood" coffee spot, if by "neighborhood" you mean "elitist." - Margaret , posted 11/29/05

Farley's Cafe
1315 18th Street in Potrero Hill

This place is a gem. It is cozy, homey and shabby chic. Good honest goodness in a low key yet funky neighborhood. Huge magazine rack. - Cathy , posted 10/21/04

Nice atmosphere and a great selection of magazines
Best cafe on Potrero Hill. Good for reading and chatting and drinking the afternoon away, plus it's stocked with lots of magazines. Find all the good, interesting reading material you'd normally have to go to the Haight for. Has board games and books too. Wifi connection from someplace nearby if you sit near the window, and a laundry place across the street. - That , posted 10/21/04

One of the Few, The Proud
Farleys is one of the few real coffee houses in San Francisco that promotes local *everything*, provides excellent coffee, ample space, and despite being out of the way, holds a large crowd easily. It's non-pretentious, too - unlike places like Cup A Joe, wich is too scenester for me. - Unsubscribed , posted 10/18/04

Coffee House, SF-style
Farley's is the quintessential independent San Francisco coffee house - chat with friends inside with your feet up on the windowsill or on the sidewalk where you can pet someone's friendly dog, read the paper or hunker down with an enthralling book, check out a magazine from their extensive & eclectic array, eat an unnecessary treat. Most importantly, don't have anywhere to go in a hurry. You're going to want to hang out awhile. - Mozilla , posted 10/17/04

The Coffee is Strong, but the Atmosphere Ain't
I mean that in a good way. It's hard to find a decent cafe in town to just jell, work on the laptop, do some sketching, meet with your latest bondage partner, etc and Farley's is the place in Potrero Hill. I find the coffee a little strong and sever, but the atmosphere is mellow and local-friendly, and there's always great art on the walls from a rotating selection of local artists. Also, watch the front store display windows for different inventive dioramas... my favorite was the vintage VW display. Good stuff! - Thom , posted 10/12/04
