not as good as you think you are
yeah, well, honestly, its a not bad review of the main areas of poi, tecnically its ok with a few glaring errors (straightjackets do NOT look like that)

newbs and some intermediates will get something out of this, that is if they can stand being patronised for 20 mins before hand and then confronted with the skinny bare chest of zan.

why is that by the way? cant poi in a tshirt?

"your hands have no choice but to do as I do" good teaching technique....

basically amature stuff, for amatures only :P - rugg , posted 02/05/07

Great teaching technique
This is a fantastic video for learning many of the more advanced poi moves, packed with more clever ideas than I've seen anywhere else. Zan presents them very clearly yet succinctly. He says deadpan "everything I say is important" and means it.

In between lessons there are interludes. Some are regular poi spinning; some are very cute, such as laying out all their fire toys and renegading spinning fire in front of the city courthouse. Spinning poi in front of a raging stream also produces an interesting visual effect.

Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to advance poi skills to the next level. - , posted 11/17/06

Rockin' Poi Dvd
Zan has each move well illustrated and described... I'd highly recommend this video for all poi dancers. I also really enjoyed that movement was given and not just technique, there are so many possibilities with fire dance and there is emphasis on this as well. The music, scenes, and clips of fire are beautiful and the skits are really funny. It keeps the video from being a dry watch. Filled with juicy good moves and some down home fire hooligans! - online*Bliss* , posted 10/24/06

Zan takes poi teaching to the next level
Zan's video is a great resource for spinners who want to take their performance to the next level. He focuses on more advanced techniques, so this video is not for beginners. His teaching style is friendly, personable, and easy to follow. The video is laid out in a comprehensive fashion and he is very upfront in his introduction that the rewind, replay buttons are your friends. His actual teaching style is very succinct and he anticipates most commonly-asked questions and answers them in his presentation. This is a very different style from the Woolsey video, yet equally effective. Zan is an excellent instructor and I highly recommend this DVD to anybody looking to expand their flow vocabulary.

Some of the performance video is great, other parts appear to be 'filler' of busking shows. While that type of content is often seemingly non-applicable, when you watch it closely you can and will pick up ideas. The purpose isn't to 'steal the moves', rather to spark ideas to take your own moves and performance to the next level. He loves what he does and it shows. - , posted 10/24/06
