"Emperor Norton, The Musical" -- A Musical Mad Enough For Us (But worthy of anyone) -- Go See It!!
I've long loved this truly beautiful character from our early San Francisco days, and this soon to be unleashed production is a great beginning at a worthy tribute (and you'll have a great time while watching it!) -- for this Visionary and Seer of bridges -- be they across Bays, or beyond limited belief systems (he championed equality for all peoples). --Oh, and he's NUTS!!

As Ernest A. Wiltsee, president of the Emperor Norton Memorial Association once said, "There have been other Emperors in the history of this world of ours who have been out of their minds--their reigns were marked by violence and atrocity...But ours was as none of these. CHARITY TOWARDS ALL AND LOVING KINDNESS WERE IN HIS HEART."

Who were Bummer & Lazarus? Who today can suceed in printing his own money, and have it accepted? To selflessly vouchsafe that all cable cars arrive on time? What kind of man could proclaim Himself Emperor of the Americas & Protector of Mexico?; Great enough to offer to unify-through-marrigage the hand of America through Lincoln to Her Majesty Queen Victoria of England (and sagely audacious enough to rescind in favor of Himself??) Answers await....

--Rollicking tunes and bawdy times for a TRULY great man; GO SEE IT!

Dear devotees of Emperor Norton

Third Child Productions is proud to announce the opening of EMPEROR NORTON THE MUSICAL at the Shelton Theater, 533 Sutter (near Powell), running weekends Jan 5 - Apr 1, 2007! Our cast of 14 includes eight returning members of the Dark Room cast who launched the show a year ago. Directed by David Stein, with Stephen Pawley as Norton, the expanded show features four new songs, new dances and plenty of Barbary Coast mayhem. Read about our new production in the January issues of Theatre Bay Area magazine (Editors' Pick) and Westways magazine (A Day by the Bay with Emperor Norton). Learn more and hear podcasts at our website, emperornortonthemusical.com.

We hope you'll visit us in the intimate 75-seat Shelton, and enjoy a close-up enounter with San Francisco's most beloved sovereign and his ensemble of Barbary Coast eccentrics! The show is suitable for the whole family, with minor burlesque elements. You can even quaff an Emperor Norton Lager (by the SF Brewing Company) at intermission. Tickets are available through Brown Paper Tickets at brownpapertickets.com. Half-priced tickets are available at the TIX Bay Area booth in Union Square, the week of the show only.
