So much ado for $15
I paid my $15, even though I was helping out, because it's a fundraiser. I got my 30 minutes of fun ;-)
But seriously, it's $15, what is the big deal? Those Dustfishes worked very hard for it, it didn't work out, to suggest they were trying to scam you out of your hard-earned $15 is disingenuous. When things go wrong there is miscommunication, people make bad calls, based on information that may be wrong or incomplete. Such was the case here. And if you though a giant party in a West Oakland warehouse could ever be legal and there was no danger of it getting shut down by the cops (or worse), then may I interest you in a nice bridge between Sausalito and Fort Point I have for sale?

Warehouse parties. They're a gamble. Everybody knows that (or should know). Past performance is no guarantee. Your results may vary. - , posted 03/20/07

Chill out y'all...
Listen up, whiners. Are we spoiled or what? When's the last time you attended even just a cocktail party with that many people from your communities all gathering together talking and hugging and kissing? How many of your friends met each other for the first time, saw peeps they hadn't seen in years, or met a cute new one? How often does your average Joe get to merely get to see a place like that with giant sculptures and gorgeous people milling about? Do you have any idea how much man/woman-power it takes to build a stage, a rack of lights, a sound-system, a freakin floating borg bar? So you'll shell out mucho bucks for your cable bill to watch some sappy media-saturated garbage on your box, but $15 is too much for you to get a small slice of culture on a Saturday night? Trust me, you're not suffering. So, yeah, ok, live and learn and get on with it. It happened and it happened. And yeah, ok, it happened already.
Consider this...Maybe, just maybe, we (you and I) can take a small seed of inspired light from this fantastic creation and make something new and incredible. Get off your ass and create. There is power in this, courage and power in this creation. Bring a light out of the darkness and carry on.

Happy Spring, Community. Happy Spring.

Chill Out, People...
What is with all the negativity? Not feeling any supposed 'Burner Love'.

People vote with their wallets - if you're unhappy, don't go again. If you loved it, support them next time. Bitching back and forth doesn't accomplish much. I'm talking to both sides here.

got a problem?
Then you do a better job.

In fact, that's my challenge to all of you whiners. Shut up and throw a better party. And if you pull it off, I'll buy you a drink and have the time of my life. And you wont find be bitching on the internet instead of getting off my ass and doing something.

Massive rocked. - , posted 03/20/07

i had the time of my life
and it got even better when the music got turned off. it was so nice to chat and catch up. i saw a ton of my friends and we were all having a good time. i didn't hear anyone complain.

i'll definitly be at the next one.

and my $10 was more then well spent. don't forget, this party was thrown so dustfish can show up and show us a good time on the playa. i know my $10 will be returned many times over when i visit their camp and have a fucking blast. - partyradar , posted 03/19/07

Shit happen, so get over your bullshit.
Ok, so they didn't have a permit. The shit went off till like 1am or so, and it was more fun than some reg. clubs that sell you over priced drinks and shit, while they exploit their workers. The fact that they only had tecate for beer was my biggest gripe. But the plusses are that people there were cool all around and you gotta expect some rustic ness when you go to a wharehouse benefit. I hope dustfish covered their costs and that their camp rocks this year. People; if you got burned its your own fault really cuz you cant critical think. Anyway It was slightly overhyped on tribe, but if it wasn't I wouldnt have seen so many of my amazing beautiful friends and new friends. It was $10 bucks well spent. - P , posted 03/19/07

there's a reason for these rumours
I showed up with a number of friends shortly after the police showed up. As a number of our friends were already inside, we decided to wait for them outside. When the police left, we were asked to come inside with claims "the music will come back on!" and "the cops said they won't be back for 2 hours so the party will keep going." When we got to the door proper, we were asked to pay $15. We asked again if the music was going to go back on and we were told it was. We then made a deal for 5 of us to pay $10 each. The "music" consisted of 10 minutes of someone playing an accordion with no amplification. We definitely felt ripped off.

I know a number of people that will back me up on this, and I'm not one to start vicious unfounded rumours. We were charged and promised music, which Dustfish did not deliver. I think it's really telling that "scatha", apparently of Dustfish, is offering critics to "tangle with any of us one on one" Face it scatha! Your crew screwed up bigtime. No permits for a massive in Oakland, no fire exits, serious overcrowding, and ya'll were still charging people after the party got busted and promising them a party they never got. And offering to fight people who criticize the job you did isn't going to make things any better for you.

Just how much is 3000 people times $15 anyway? - Pascal , posted 03/18/07

just for your information (not that you deserve to know)
we stopped taking money the first time the cops got there. i know, i was managing the door. You are spreading your stoopid misinformation based on what? we were asking people to leave after we made the decision not to continue the party based on the facts. But what? do you think we were stoopid? we took the cash boxes away straight up.

people and their opinions and their misinformation. I could do without it. - , posted 03/18/07

well, now you kknow what party you're not coming to........
seriously, if you think that we were making money off of the massive, you're not really looking at the facts. please, next time you see a dustfish party, stay at home or find an alternative.
collectively, we probably couldn't satisfy you whatever we do. however, if you'd like to tangle with any of us one on one, you're welcome to it.
many thanks to all the peeps who did show up, and graciously did not start a fight with the oaktown bacon upon exiting.
no one could be more disappointed than the dustfish. we're paying for the fucking party.
oh, the one star is for you! - , posted 03/18/07

Busted-Fish
it was massive allright... a massive bust!
the power went off before 2am even.
c'mon people, I thought big-city camps had great awe-inspiring parties,
not charge em' to get in, even after the cops shut you down but leave...
only to return for a final smack down!
this was an over-hyped gig, which let me down.
maybe next time... not. - redBone , posted 03/12/07

Massive party in East Bay tonight just keeps getting better and better
Yes it was a tragic thing that this event got busted, but it still ended up being really fun. Maybe I'm the queen of positive thinking, maybe not, but the magic conjured by this group of people really did something to that massive warehouse space and to all the conscious lovers who came and gave their support. Check out this blog: people.tribe.net/9c0dff5c-...faa546840b

I made connections and new friends right and left! I was one of the many who ended up loving that the music was stopped; it was then that I began really talking to the people I was standing with and then that I was able to hear them.

Next time, Dustfish will get a permit for a huge 3000+ event and the cops will have to endure our revelling. Who knew that close to 3,000 people were going to show up????? There was almost enough space for that many, and there was definitely a line-up to sustain our need to groove..... If only they'd gotten the permit for their MASSIVE, we might still be partying while the giant metal lady soars over the crowd.

I'm probably not going to be the last person to tell you this, but, DO NOT MISS THIS PARTY TONIGHT!
I've been totally blown away by the amount of crazy amazing synergy, hard fucking work, creativity and pure LUCK that has converged to make this gigantic party become what is probably going to be THE MOST insane event happening this year ANYWHERE other than the playa. Insane art and playa-style installations, off the hook dance music, stages with live music, grub, custom Dustfish fashions by Scatha and Domini, giant sculptures hanging from the ceiling of this giant warehouse space, and, oh yeah, a BORG bar, suspended from cranes. Yes, you'll get to buy your drinks from the BORG and yes, it's going to trip you out.
This party is called MASSIVE for a reason! Don't miss it!

Bring cash, this is a fundraiser and there's going to be plenty of stuff that you are going to want.
From 10pm until way into Sunday morning.
$10 before midnight $15 after.
21+ with ID
At the corner of 20th & Mandela in W. Oakland
