Phenomenol group of DJs, musicians and artists in SF
Dhamaal definately brings a new edge to music and dance culture with their monthly events at Club Six and Special events featuring Dhamaal Soundsystem Live. Their recent shows at Elbo room and 1015 Folsom seriously rocked the house. Dhamaal totally transformed 1015 Folsom into a positive global experience. Look for their upcoming shows and festivals - Dhamaalsf.com - the rest is there - check out the artist bios, photos and gig info on the website. A true community. - Amar , posted 02/14/05

Futuristic Global
Dhamaal is an amazing combination of cutting edge electronic music with traditional sounds that share the same space - and intermingle without trivializing either in the process. Their album is an incredible first release showing that there is serious musicianship in the crew - as well as DJ-skills. Live Dhamaal events are worthy of repeat-visits - they are more and more bringing in top-creative players in the international scene - putting SF on the map in the process. The vibe is welcoming. And the visuals are also worth a whole independent review - beautiful, hand-painted artistry to immerse in. Must check this out if you haven't. - D , posted 01/18/05

Take heed . . .
Seriously, take heed of Dhamaal. I have seen them grow over the past three years into a living breathing beast of a party. Dhamaal is ready to bust out, due to, in my opinion, the fact that all the members of the collective are doing what they love and having fun doing it. They don't pander to what they think will be popular, they just invite one and all to behold what they think should be popular . . . and they make a compelling sonic argument. - Ben , posted 01/14/05

Bomb ass artist collective!
I've been been going to and participating in Dhamaal for 3 years+ now and love the scene. They've grown so much over the years and keep on getting tighter, with phatter and dirtier beats, beautiful and lush visuals, and amazing artwork on display. Check for yourself at the next gig, shold be posted up here in a couple weeks. - Ameet (part-time-... , posted 01/13/05

Pushing Boundaries
The Dhamaal crew have really been taking things to the next level. They have been putting on events in the Bay area for over 5 years; this crew not only has created new expressions of traditional musics but done it with a socially conscious flavor, putting on benefits and fundraisers for groups internationally. The crew have played around the globe and hold it down proper at their residency at Club six and their new event at 1015 Folsom called Worldy. Dhamaal recently won Best of the Bay for Electronic artist and DJ (Janaka Selekta); don't sleep, find out what all the hype is about! - Maneesh , posted 01/06/05

Best damed party in SF!!!
Dhamaal Soundsystem has been in operation in San Francsco for the past 6 years but they are now starting to attract the international attention that they deserve. This is a group of extremely talented artists, and musicians and their monthly events are definetly some of the most rocking nights in the city. More than just a club night- these folks seem to be creating a culture where one can drift between the soaring classical music upstairs and the heart pumping, sweat flowing relentless electronic mayhem in the basement. Dhamaal is doing what few other groups seem to be doing as well- effortlessly merging these two worlds and proving that they can both co-exist and compliment each other. - Nayomi , posted 01/05/05

Taking the Underground Mainstream
The Dhamaal Artist Collective has been feverishly pushing forward hybrids of South Asian and world culture for the last 6 years. DJ, Live Music, Fine Art, Web Design, Digital Video and many other forms come together at their monthly event that has been voted Best of the Bay by the SF Bay Guardian two years in a row; once by as the editors pick and once as the reader's pick. Dhamaal Cofounder Janaka Selekta won the readers poll award for best DJ in 2004. Their music is world but without borders, definitely on the heavy beat and percussion tip.

2004 saw them play with legendary Asian Dub Foundation and Visionary Underground in the UK to a sold out show. Their UK tour highlights included BBC Radio live DJ sets from Janaka Selekta as well as Dhruva Ganesan (tabla/dumbek), Shabi Farooq (tabla), Adheesh Sathaye (keyboards), Skip Intro(visuals), Ross Hogg (turntablist) rocking out crowds UK wide.

Here in SF Dhamaal has a number of shows scheduled at 1015 Folsom, the Independent and Club Six. Dhamaal is taking the sound overground, their most recent event clocked in a massive 1300 people at 1015 Folsom!
