Sadly, the five star rating they get from most customers does not apply for my experience. Be prepared and be involved, this might help with the kind of problems I had. I was moving across country on a deadline and totally trusted them as professional movers to load the truck we were using for the move so that everything would travel safely with no damage. They arrived early, were completely courteous and hardworking. However, we discovered at the other end that they loaded lovely vintage, hand-finished wood furniture in such a sloppy and careless way, fifteen pieces were damaged, mostly as a result of them loading them wrong. Heavy pieces were stacked on top of others without correct padding - two antique pieces were broken and are beyond repair. The others all have surface and pressure damage from their poor loading. Had I been able to watch this crew (John, Neal and Riccardo) for the entire loading process and see how they handled the furniture, a lot of the damage might have been avoided. But that is what I hired and paid them for -- I was very busy prepping things inside to go on the truck, along with my 83 yr old mother and 18 yr old cat! I've moved a lot of times with the same vintage and heirloom pieces of furniture, and there was never ANY damage with other movers! When I contacted the Delancey St. office after I discovered all the damage, Greg was extremely rude and declared the only possible problem was that I drove the truck not them! But in fact, they loaded the truck as if they couldn't wait to get finished with the job - including loading extremely heavy pieces on top of more fragile ones, and not taking the time to adjust the position of those pieces as they went along with the load. It was all about trying to get it all on, which they failed to do, with no advice to me of any potential problems. Had they offered a professional opinion to spend more time, etc. I would have been glad to hear it! This was my 3rd move in the Bay Area in the past 10 years and the first time I've used Delancey. They were highly recommended to me by a good friend of mine who had used them before. I decided to go with them after doing a little research on the Delancey Street Organization. What a great way to get a service and give back to society. You will not find a group of hard-working individuals anywhere else. Not only did they show up early, but they were non-stop until they were done. I was impressed with how they assessed the situation at the pickup, came up with a game plan, moved us, assessed the destination and then implemented their final plan. They were extremely careful with my belongings and I had 0% loss and damage!! They were extremely courteous and very thorough. I did experience a slight delay in trying to get someone on the phone, but then I realized how busy they really were and didn't mind. They happened to be the cheapest of 3 quotes I received from separate companies, but decided to match the next higher bid with a tax-deductible tip/donation. The receptionist was exceedingly rude during my call to them and did not provide any useful information. If she is any indication of the rest of the company, I will be better served elsewhere. No thanks. - Dan , posted 11/13/06 |

I have moved 7 times in the Bay Area - this one was definitely the most complicated. From a houseboat with spiral stairs during high tide in the rain into an apartment in the city with 3 flights going straight up. Uggghh. These guys were awesome. They were strong, nice, fast and careful. I swear at one point they kept me from crying during a moving day meltdown. Could not say more good things about them. - Beth , posted 10/16/06 |

What more can I say? They showed up a few minutes early for my move, they were the utmost in professionalism, sitting down with me to explain all of the details of the move and making sure I properly understood the agreements I was to sign. The team worked well together and didn't waste any time. Because the road where I was moving to was narrow, they stopped the clock to have another smaller truck brought over during which time they took advantage of this to take their lunch break. Then, when the new truck came, they were on it, always pleasant but never wasting time. After having moved 4 times in 5 yrs, this is the first moving company that showed this level of enthusiasm and professionalism. My fiancee went through two other firms each of which were either rude or tried to hit on her and had total disrespect. She finally listened to me and went w/Delancey, and they proved that their professionalism and good attitude was no accident, they're all like this. Kudos to a wonderful organization. They really are great! There is a 3hour min, so if you only have a room's worth, it may not be "worth it", but they were really great, plus, any tip you give is a tax-deductible donation to their camping programs & stuff to rehab people!
