Good Sushi Fantastic Ambience
Just went there last night with my co-workers and had a blast. We sat at the big table where you have to take your shoes off and sit cross legged for the entire meal. Even the occasional visiting Mexican musical entertainment was a joy (they actually pass out instruments for the patrons to play along with!). The sushi was really good (i loved the avocado and papaya roll), and I liked the slightly grungy bohemian vibe. Don't be surprised if the entire restaurant greets you when you walk in the door. That is, if you can find the place--it's kind of hard to tell what it is from the outside. - Ruthy , posted 04/06/06

Good veggie sushi with style
I love this place. I go at least once a month and it's fun to know the servers and chefs. Eve's roll with papaya and avocado is one of my favorites. The music is always funky, always different. Some have called the place dirty, but I call them yuppies. It's comfortable with polaroids and doodles tacked to the wall. Get some sake and settle in on the pillow for a long night. Also expect at least one item you ordered to be forgotten. It's all a part of the experience, which overall is outstanding. - Kathy , posted 08/05/05

best butoh sushi i've ever had.
the vegetarian options rock my world, if you have veggie pals or are veggie you'reself this is the place. no worries of fish flakes in the miso or some hidden animal products, homemade natural pickles and not the dyed msg kind. fresh fish picked up early everymorning. crazy hours so best to call first. the operators of this place are modern dancers and are sometimes on tour. best to get there early to avoid a wait. very entertaining decor and the staff is super friendly. you might not realize it but you are eatting food cooked by a legend of modern dance history. yum and they've been there forever so you aren't particapating in mission yuppy gentrification when you eat there.
yeah go eat some sushi- - Unsubscribed , posted 01/23/05

playful butoh artists' sushi restaurant
It's fun to go to Country Station just to play with Hiroko Tomano, while she makes music banging on plates or some other mirth. - Elizabeth , posted 10/18/04

Sushi and Johnny Cash, Mmm, mmm, mmm
Country Station Sushi House is on Mission Street between 16th and 17th Streets. They have a few traditional low Japanese tables where you take your shoes off and sit on the floor, as well as Western dining arrangments. The music is always great, usually Patsy Cline or Johnny Cash, and the service is EXCELLENT! - onlineHarvey , posted 10/15/04

funkiest sushi experience ever
country station is like no other sushi bar ever. on a nasty block of mission street, you might show up to find it closed because the owners are in japan at a butoh performance. but come back again, because it's worth it.

a small, cozy place, the walls are filled with old christmas crafts projects by kindergartners, posters from butoh shows and odds and ends. chairs don't necessarily match, and it's a little crowded. it's all as individual as the people who work there, and part of the exprerience.

the sushi menu is top-notch, though -- you'll find all of your favorites, as well as great vegetarian choices. they take great care with their food, so have the uni or monkfish livers if you dare. prices are on the low end for sushi, so you can eat your fill.. and take your time, since service is a bit casual and you won't be rushed.

it's on my list of favorite places to take out-of-towners who appreciate the funkier side of san francisco. - , posted 10/15/04

One of the best sushi experiences
one of the best sushi experiences has got to be country station sushi in the mission.

i used to frequent moki's in bernal heights as well. it's pacific rim influenced so it's not your run of the mill sushi menu. - , posted 03/25/04
Reasonable prices
I second the We Be vote - not the biggest pieces but fresh fish and reasonable price. I had a horrible experience at Country Station - so bad that we left before being served. I cannot speak to the quality of the food 'cause we got outta dodge.

Sidenote: If you are ever in Campbell - Furu Sato is the real deal. Fat Nigiri and whacky rolls. - Miro , posted 12/07/03
