For selection and price, Central Computer is good for a San Francisco based store
90% of time if I need to purchase any kind of sub-$100 PC part I usually go to Central Computer in San Francisco. Their ever changing "weekly specials" on computer parts are usually in the same ballpark in terms of price as big discount Internet based vendors. The Internet vendors are usually a little cheaper but for sub-$100 items the difference usually isn't significant.

This store is a good option if you need to replace or upgrade a PC part that day. They carry a decent selection of PC parts and equipment. I wouldn't buy a whole system from them or any high priced item like a LCD display, etc. - Jon , posted 11/15/06

Good for parts and supplies at least.
A mid-sized, austere, and tighly run clean shop. (Which was refreshing) They have a good selection of brand-name parts, with competitive peripherals pricing. I wouldn't recommed their systems or shop necessarily, but decent for supplies and parts. - .Bus Driver. , posted 11/15/06

No Returns is a bad policy
About a year ago I bought a Pentium PC system from Central Computer in Fremont. The system died after about an hour of use. I brought it back to the store to have it fixed. They returned it to me a few days later, having found nothing wrong. Two days later it died again. This time I brought it back and asked for my money back. It was a lemon. They refused to give me a refund, saying that they would make it work. I was skeptical that they could fix it, since they had already tried and failed. This time, when they looked at it they saw that the motherboard and the graphics card were both burnt to a crisp, so they replaced both at no charge. Apparently the fan had failed. The system had come with the cheapest possible fan. Not wanting to go through that again, I spent an additional $40 to get a better fan. The computer then worked fine for about a year, and now the hard drive is dying. Apparently they used the cheapest possible hard drive, too. I'm not even going to bother going back there to have them fix it, because I don't trust that they can. I'll replace the hard drive myself. The moral here is: Never, ever, buy computer hardware that you can't return. I will never deal with these guys again. - Mike , posted 11/20/04
