Great find...
Back in 1999, a friend and I were looking for a quick dinner within walking distance of the Power Exchange. We stumbled upon this lovely little blue restaurant, and decided to check it out for a quick dinner.

The decor was lovely, and the wait staff attentive and friendly. My date ordered the feijoda, a meat stew with black beans and savory seasonings. I ordered a seafood dish served up in a pineapple half, and enjoyed it immensely. The portions were generous, reasonably priced, and quite tasty, and we were very pleased with our little discovery.

Since that initial dining experience more than 7 years ago, I have introduced many friends and partners to Canto do Brasil. I haven't visited in the last few years, yet look forward to returning to see what is new on the menu. - "Buster" , posted 01/23/07

Not bad but BIG faux pas
I had two dishes. The grilled shrimp was oversalted but not badly prepared otherwise. The shrimp were skinny. $9 for 6 skinny shrimp is ok but based on the decor and the neighborhood, it could be considered overpriced. The paella was also bland and unevenly seasoned. The rice in the paella was soggy, more like jambalaya than spanish paella. However, I'm not really familiar with brazilian paella so it might have been exactly how they normally serve it. The paella had lots of tiny mussels in it but most other meats were very sparing. The dish was also underseasoned but not terribly so. Overall, a mediocre $20 dish.

So, if I was only considering the food, I'd give it 3 stars. The reason I give 2 is because they did the unthinkable. We showed up at 8:45. At 9:30, they came by to say the kitchen is closed, can we please order desert. We said no thank you and went back to our wine and the rest of the meal. At 9:40, the waiter came back and said, "Excuse me. We are closing in 5 minutes."

In my book, that is pretty fucking unacceptable. You don't seat people at 8:45, shut down the kitchen at 9:30 and then actually kick people out at 9:45. The only time this has ever happened to me before is at some hole-in-the-wall chinese restaurant. That said, service was quite friendly otherwise. - James , posted 01/09/07

Affordable, but only one veggie dish for lunch
I go to Canto do Brasil from time to time because I like their veggie plate for lunch. The grilled veggies, rice, and beans are tasty and I go away not feeling stuffed. This dish is only $5.95 so the price is right. Everything else about the place is average. - Polly , posted 01/16/06
