Nice place for a trail run
The Berkeley fire trail network offers wide, well-graded trails that lend themselves well to casual trail running even in the rainy season. For a good run, start at the trailhead off of Centennial above Strawberry Creek Pool. If you follow the main trail, it's 3.7 miles to the top, with only two very steep spots. There are side trails that are steeper and go higher, especially one heart-breaking trail off to the right that eventually ends up at the top of of South Park Drive. A great run is to take that trail, go down South Park to the Youth Camp access road, then pick up the Grizzley Peak Trail and stay on that until you hit Golf Course. Then go left, on GC and cross Grizzley Peak and pick up the fire road down. That's about 10 miles round trip and very strenuous! - Philip , posted 02/20/05
