yeah, yeah, yeah ... go see it
ok, so this isn't the newest show on the block - but that means you can go in and not push and shove with the crowds of diesel wearing motherfuckers & get all the time you want to poke around with the shit and frustrate the guards who keep shoving you towards the oddly-placed kate spade store. *side note, wtf is going on with this store? I first thought it was a satyrical installation piece poking fun at consumerism mixing with art, but no, it's just a kate spade store stuck in the middle of the museum, weird beard*

This is a good show. It's great to see strong work coming out of the bay area and a couple of my favorite artists are given their due here. Most notably, John Hattori, Christine Shields, and Christian Maychack.

Christian's work is just fucking great. It flows and blobs and spills out of the gallery - taking over and threatening the world. He knows his shit and it really works.

Christine Shields is a genius and we should all just get off our goddamn high horses and admit it. She and John get right to the point of what's going on with art right now...the personal. Paint your friends. Video your friends. Your friends and the hope and support you get from them is what's driving this community right now. Is it no surprise that Seonna Hong is doing a show that is, for the most part, portraits of her friends? It's all we've got right now & it works for me.

Jonny's work is outstanding. Those 60 1 minute pieces are golden and should be burned onto some interstellar probe and sent out to the Andromeda galaxy. Well shot, well edited and goddamn well displayed, this dude should get a grant from someone to do something else. He kicks ass.

*edited drunken rant about neck face, his stuff is what it is. Ya dig it or you don't. Personally, I think it's a rehash of stuff done better by others years ago, but whatevs*

The Gestalt Collective's mural was really quite good and totally worth the price of admission. Part of it calls out for the inclusion of Damon Soule's (D23) work in the show & FUCK YES, where the hell is his stuff? - Greggy! , posted 09/24/05
