Even though I bring in CDs to trade whenever I go to Amoeba, I always leave with even more CDs on the way out. They always have some gem that I couldn't find otherwise. Also, they've expanded their world music section recently into more-specific categories for each genre and they've added more vinyl to their electronica section, which seemed to be shrinking for awhile. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the music they play on the sound system in the Haight Street store is awful. - Cary , posted 05/16/07 |

The sheer volume of choices can be daunting. Expect to spend more time than you thought possible looking for your favorite CD's. Thank god for Amoeba-- they stock just about every taste--- Maybe part of the reason they do a crackin business. Do wear comfy shoes. - Jones

Amoeba Records has its roots in Berkeley at the corner of Dwight Way and Telegraph. Way more interesting and great selection. Love the atmosphere and the people. - Silva , posted 04/16/06 |

Tons of CDs and records. If you are looking to start a collection of electronica records as an aspiring DJ, this is the place to drop several hundred dollars. So much fun. - Stuart , posted 11/26/05 |

I suppose it's great for the novelty of going to a record store, however, as far as compact discs and dvd's go you may find them at a much more reasonable price through amazon.com and ebay. Still, I enjoy Amoeba nonetheless. - Alexandra , posted 11/21/05 |

Most folks go for the music, I go for the videos. I can rarely leave without dropping about a hundred bucks on DVDs, and yes, the occasional CD. The music sorting is a little eclectic, but there's always the folks at the info booth to tell you where _they_ have categorized an artist. They take trade-ins, of course, but it's been my experience that some clerks are a little more generous and forgiving than others with the credit-to-crap ratio. - Unsubscribed , posted 07/01/05 |

Even when I don't live near Amoeba, it's still the place I insist on for music shopping. Expansive selection, knowledgeable staff, and plenty of used music do you don't have to support the RIAA. What more could you want? - Beth , posted 05/28/05 |

Yea Amoeba's tha shit, but working there for close to five years inevitably makes you a bit jaded. But thats just my own SHiat!!! The store rocks. Lots of rare stuff top be found. - Audiovoid... , posted 02/11/05 |

They really crank the stuff out there. If any other place did as good a job on such a ginormous scale, I'd have knocked them down to four stars. Even having worked there 4 years as a buyer (SF & Berkeley) can't diminish my love for the place. Amoeba really is undervalued for it's video section too, one of the country's best. Mad Kudo's to my great friend Wayne for making it so, so boss. A big old barn full of lots & lots of music. Works for me. - Agent J , posted 02/04/05 |

the same items I can sell on the Internet for $3-10 they gave me an average of .20 cents - or a fraction more if i shopped there. Maybe if you can't get rid of your stuff anywhere else but otherwise forget it - Benhi , posted 11/13/04 |

This is one of the biggest record stores I've seen in my life. The selection is huge and titles are constantly turning over at a fast rate. Great selection of boxed sets and posters, too. The Blues section could use a major overhaul, though. - Dave K. , posted 10/28/04 |

The prices on the used LPs and CDs are very fair. They also have a wide selection of world music which is great if you like Rai Music or Manu Chao - Adam , posted 10/18/04 |

San Francisco's best record, CD, DVD, posers, whatever store. No matter what you're looking for, you'll find it here. Bonus: Free validate parking in a lot nearby. - Lewis , posted 10/17/04 |

Hands down the best record store in the city. Their Used CD section is bigger than some stores' new CD sections. If you don't mind being on the ground and digging around the bargain bins, you can find some really good vinyl, a dollar each and every fourth one is free. Awesome... - ColonelTCB , posted 10/15/04 |

I second the statement about Amoeba's large selection - I always take out of town friends there and they do seem to manage to find those CDs they've been looking forever for. They have used DVD's too. It's best to walk in with a list of what you want or you'll get terribly distracted. They also regularly have live bands playing short sets there in the afternoon or early evening - check the schedule they post by the door. - Maia , posted 08/08/04 |
