Most Beautiful Neighborhood in the City
Breathtaking, dramatic, and comforting all in one. - Unsubscribed , posted 09/11/06

One of San Francisco's Internationally Famous Views - Row of Victorians with spectacular downtown sk
Standing near the corner of Hayes & Steiner at sunset, overlooking the restored rows of Queen Anne Victorians and the San Francisco Financial District towers looming as the background, you'll recognize the view from countless movies, TV shows, and advertisements. One of SF's best views. - FFinSF , posted 02/20/06

I spend countless hours...
Basking in the sun at the newly remodeled play park. I pack all of Dede's sand toys, snacks, and drinks. As well as a nice book and some mimosas. And I chill out and bake all day. My only problem with this park is the lack of restroom. Alittle vexing if your potty training. I've bumped into folks in the bushes at times and it was just alittle embarrassing. But overall a wondrous place with loud and beautiful birds and butterflies. I rarely even see pigeons here! That has to be a bonus. - Wasabininja , posted 04/27/05

Awesome city views
Located in front of "Full House Row," Alamo Square park has been recently re-lawned and groomed. It's a popular tour bus spot, but also hosts local favorites like Saturdays' coffee in the park, and is one of the premier dog parks in the city. - Marc , posted 10/18/04

Nice neighborhood park
Great location due to being on a hill with a view of the San Francisco cityscape. This park gets a load of use from dogwalkers, those just passing through, families with children in the newly renovated playground, and of course those dreadful tourists that arrive in tour busses to stare at the houses known as The Pink Ladies. If you have a dog there is one side for letting your dog off leash, while the other side is leash only. The annual flea market is a great place for bargains, especially after it closes down and lots of stuff gets left near the trash bins. In the afternoon the wind picks up and it can be very windy, so bring a windbreaker if you plan to hang out there. The new drain system has yet to be tested by the rainy season, but it looks nice with the cobble stone gutters. The trees are, as always beautiful and peaceful to sit amongst. - Violeta , posted 10/16/04

Pretty trees, happy dogs, living shoes.
Alamo Square might seem two-dimensional as its neighboring Postcard Row (or the Full House houses, to some) draws busloads of tourists like parasites, but it's actually a very nice park. There are lots of romping dogs (legally off-leash on the western side of the park), but their owners seem to clean up after them pretty well. There are some neat trees - weeping willows, tall poplars, and big old eucalyptus. But my favorite thing, hands-down, is the shoe garden. It's near the utility building at the top of the hill. There are several dozen pairs of all types of shoes, including ruby slippers and ski boots, nailed to logs and planted with plants growing out of them. It's completely whimsical and entirely charming. I don't know who's in charge of them, but I've been saving up boots for some time. Oh, and the views are nice. - Rank Bad Hat , posted 10/16/04

Best Dog Park / Best Park with Downtown View
You've seen the postcards with the 'painted ladies' victorian houses in a row, with the backdrop of the city skyline behind. This is the park on a hill that looks out over houses to the downtown, a beautiful view morning, noon or night.
But did you know this is also a really popular dog park? Any given day or evening you can find dozens of dogs and their humans running around, playing frisbee, having a great time.
Lots of big trees, this park is on a hill and has a lot of neat paths and benches to hang out. Worth checking out. - jules , posted 10/15/04
