A friend of mine just got some window-mats cut for her at Aaron Brother's Custom Framing, here is her experience I wanted to alert you to something that I encountered today. I have to have a bunch of photographs ready to be hung and I went to Aaron Brothers because I've seen notices here about their Penny sales. Foolish me, however, thought I would be able to entrust them with cutting 14 ten x ten window mats for me...and not messing up. Every corner of every mat is over-cut. I spent $290 (I know that's high but I figured it might be) on this and am now pretty upset with the quality of the work. They claimed that there is no way to cut a window mat without overcutting...even when they send it out to be cut by computer. Now, I have 20+ window matted prints that have no over-cuts...they were done by a graduate student friend of mine while I was in undergrad. I think I paid her like $5 a piece (if that much) and snacks to do it. Did I mention no over-cuts? The only reason I wanted to get new mats was because my old ones had smudges from over the years of handling. I didn't ask them to hing a back piece or do an additional frame work. Just the 14 front window mats. Perhaps this is my own fault...trusting a chain...but I thought I'd let you know. - SpiritFlame , posted 07/07/09 |
