The Absolutely Amazing Bright River
Holy shit! I just saw one of the most amazing theater/music events, 'The Bright River.' The show is hard to explain... it's subtitle is 'A Mass Transit Tour of the Afterlife' The production
involves music, Jewish storytelling, beatboxing, string instruments... it's awesome. I wasn't sure what to expect, but all I can say now is goddamn, I need to see this production again. - J , posted 03/03/05

One of the best theatrical productions I've ever seen ...
This theatrical production, simply put, breaks down all your preconceived notions about what theater can be, as it brings in highly divergent worlds into a seamless, powerful offering: hip hop, Jewish folklore, beatboxing, song, tribal rhythms, and storytelling that will (I guarantee) raise goosebumps. This is worth the money, and then some. I promise you, you don't want to miss it. - Playaquest , posted 12/03/04

Best Show In Town...
Brilliant. Their tagline says it all "a mass transit view of the afterlife", it's absolutely brilliant. Kid Beyond (who you might have seen at burningman in the cafe) is the beatboxer extraodinaire, tim barsky is great.

Go see this one. - Sean , posted 12/02/04

The Brighter River
The Bright River is one of the most unique and touching pieces I have seen. It's an incredible mix of hip hop theatre, Jewish folklore, klezmer, beatbox, and jazz. How they've managed to get all that to work together is beyond me! You have to see it to believe it!
The Bright River takes us on a mass transit tour of the afterlife...an afterlife that mirrors our world. It's a modern re-telling of Dante's Inferno...how scary to think that what we're doing here might actually be affecting more than just the planet.
If you saw it at the Transparent Theater in Berkeley, you'll be thrilled to see what it has become. If you didn't see it, get your tickets now! It is already selling out!! - catalayse , posted 11/23/04

The Bright River = The Big Bomb!
This show will change your life. Tim Barsky's storytelling isn't only fresh and original, it also contains timeless and important lessons that are accessible by all. Endearing characters, local flavor, street sensibility, and the music!

Kid Beyond's oral antics are enough to make anyone go home and record themself making crazy noises, and Jess Ivry's cello makes me wish I had stuck with the instrument as a kid. They're amazing musicians, and work with Tim to bring out some really fresh backup for this superstory.

If you saw it last run, know that the show kept evolving over the course of those weeks and was quite different the two times I saw it (early and late in the run). I've heard it's evolved even more, not only with the addition of a different bassist, but with story twists, lighting, staging, and costume changes, and a while new venue with a new vibe! Come see it again, see it for the first time, bring some friends, and check out one of the coolest shows to hit the West Coast! - Espie , posted 11/18/04

The Bright River is the best local theater of 2004!
I went to go see "The Bright River" in Berkeley when it was at the Transparent theater, and now it's coming to San Francisco!

It's an incredible combination of compelling storytelling, hip-hop, folklore, beatbox, and jazz, that will draw you in and take you on the most amazing adventure I've been on since childhood!

There's never been anything like this, nor will there be again! You simply must go see it to believe it, and I promise you won't be disappointed! - Jenni , posted 11/18/04
