Well made, but historical wrong and underlying patriotic theme
I will admit this movie was visually well done, it had a well balanced burnished quality, the acting was good as well.
My problems with this movie is, 1st problem, it is historically inaccurate, with a little research you find out how inaccurate. (In the movie King Leonidas, as young man, is sent into the wilderness to survive and must kill a wolf, Historical, he had to kill a slave and not get caught., this is among many others.)
2nd problem, the director took a lot of liberties, with twisting a strong patriotic theme into this movie.
1st, the solders chanting like a High School football team pep-rally or a troop of US Marines cadence.
2nd, clear reference to anti-gay, anti-goddess and anti-mysticism (non-Christian ideas).
3rd, Xerxes is painfully un-true, in the movie is portrays him as a giant, balled, pierced, bisexual man. This also had strong suggestions of an Anti-Christ figure.
4th, Every Spartan had a perfect body, 2500 hundred years ago, no body had a perfect body,(but I guess they had to sell tickets).
5th, The death scene of King Leonidas, very reminiscent of a crucifixion.
6th, Though historical accurate, there are very strong fascist undertones for not letting live the un-fit or imperfect. - Phyfer , posted 04/07/07
