222 club a vintage cocktail lounge yuppified
this place was abandoned for years and then someone cleaned it up--inside is the original vintage cocktail lounge sign--yep, 222--the address on Hyde street---a parking lot right next door was once a famous jazz club called the Black Hawk--torn down--Billy Holiday sang there and Charlie Parker played there...and *they* the city whoever torn it down, no historic plaque--but all the locals know about it and
right there the now renovated refurbished 22 Cocktail Lounge turned club, with Spanish styles tapis and a cellar
with brick walls---when they get their cabaret liscense will host jazz ...the owner said a while ago--so this may be happening now...a long bar when you enter makes the place look deceptively small, but go in back down to the brick lines cellar with booths and space...underground - Marie , posted 10/16/04
