A protracted disaster
I had to have four crowns done a couple of years ago. The student dentist I had seemed professional and skilled, but he ended up making a mistake while he was drilling out a root canal, and broke the tooth. This required having the tooth extracted and an implant done, a much more expensive and time-consuming thing. A family friend who is a dentist took a look at it and concluded that the tooth breaking was entirely "operator error".

The moral of the story: the treatment you get at UOP SOD is no better than your student dentist. - Robert , posted 07/01/05

Wierd Cow Tables / You can do better.
I went there for an accessment,,,
in the mean while I was confronted by mentally ill loud vocal people in the waiting room... who were hurting but not getting help.... and the receptionist ignored them.... it was like a waiting room for poor hurt cows...

When I had my initial appt... the person in the dental chair next to me... had an emotional freak out and started throwing things over into my cubiclue ... not a calm or memorable experience,,, except that,,, you should use caution going to a public dental center... and it might be better to use a private calm clinic.
Basically if you have to have dental work done..
Try going to canada for dental work better and more technilogical than the san fran dental school. They are old fashioned and poor quality of standard work.
If you want to get your teeth done go to a place where they scan your teeth and visualize them in 3d.

Good, reliable dental care
I've been going to UOP for about 7 years now...I had all FOUR of my wisdom teeth extracted at once, and though I was SO nervous everything went very smoothly, and it only cost me $625-including IV sedation (trust me, you want that). I go there every year for my regular checkups/cleanings, and though sometimes I get a little aggravated at waiting and being in there for sometimes 4 hours, the price is worth it. AND, a new dental student will contact you automatically every year when it's time for your next appt. Can't get better than that! - Dina , posted 02/03/05

Cheap and gentle dentistry
UOP is a dental college. I went there to have 2 wisdom teeth extracted. It was 1/3 the price of other dentists ( I think I payed $240.00) and the woman who extracted my teeth had them both out in about 25-30 minutes without any complications. I was in the waiting room longer than it took to remove the teeth. - Vaughn , posted 11/30/04

UOP - great for inexpensive dentistry
UOP is a dental university with a large clinic. Prices can be 40-50% lower than a regular dentist. Patients are treated by the 2nd and 3rd year students (supervised by a dentist). If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, check out their website. - Elena , posted 11/17/04

Dental care for everyone
University of the Pacific is a dental college. They have a wide range of services and payment options. For those with limited income or no insurance, it's really pretty cool to have this as an option to traditional dental offices. - Jeanie , posted 10/22/04

Thought you couldn't afford to get yer teeth fixed? You can here. Sure, it takes a lot longer than at a regular dentist's office, and, yup, you got students takin' care of yer pearlies. Don't wory they're overseen by skilled professors and the students are graded on everything, so they're gonna try real hard to get it right the first time. They have a pediatrics program and, for HIVvers, it's next to free thanks to their CARE program. - Spider, Jef Leopa... , posted 10/19/04
