McLaren Park
While many compete with Haight Street club kids, anonymous sex parties, and kickball reunions for a wedge of glee in Golden Gate Park, I?m packing snacks and heading for the most well maintained under utilized greenspance in the city~ John McLaren Park. Straight off 101?s Paul Avenue exit, Mansal Avenue bisects this gently sloping heaven: sweeping bay and city views, tons of parking, oodles of serine benches and picnic tables, readily available free clean BBQ grills and bathrooms, thoughtfully placed non-overflowing trash cans, and 317 acres of beautifully blended natural and ornamental landscape. The pooches and I have never been hassled, panhandled, hit in the head with a Frisbee, or even encroached upon. And odds are that when fog blankets the rest of the, you?ll be toasty warm watchin it roll over downtown SF. So~ unless you need to see the buffalo or practice your fly fishing techniques, pick up an El Faralito or Truly Med, and rest your blanket in the plush grass at McLaren.
