Part 1 of Night School: Ideas and Demonstrations in Pattern, Body, and the Book with artist Emma Spertus
Each series is $60; sign up for all three for $175
Night School is a class series based around themes. In each class of the Night School, series artist Emma Spertus will explore and illuminate the class theme with brief lectures, fast projects and exciting assignments. This session will examine the body in all it's physical and conceptual permutations. The class will investigate body as figure, body as body of a text, body in relation to space, body as what is between the head and the foot. Using observation, abstraction, re-contextualization, sculpture, and collage, participants will work individually and together on multiple in-class and take-home projects. Ideas to be covered in BODY include: representation, monotype printing, ratio, life drawing, form, narrative structures, figure ground relationships, anatomy, appropriation, and text in art.
CLASSES
Kala offers some of the best printmaking and digital media classes in the Bay Area. Located in Berkeley, every year Kala offers the community close to one hundred classes in a wide range of techniques, utilizing the exceptional equipment available in our printmaking studio and electronic media center. The small, hands-on classes foster creative exchange with instructors and fellow students, and all of our instructors are exhibiting artists. We offer numerous classes combining digital and traditional printmaking in different ways.
Choose a class that explores a new interest, or refines previous experience. Both beginners and advanced professional artists will find classes at appropriate skill levels, with detailed class descriptions, in Kala’s annual course catalog and on our website. The website has the most up-to-date class information.
Private classes and tutoring sessions in many subjects are also available.
