Point Global Staffing, provides Quality Recruiting Services has an immediate need for a Opto Mechanical Design Engineer.
Perform quality design of mechanical/optical component layout, 3-D modeling and structural analysis for ASI LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) and LA-ICP-MS (Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma) instruments. Typical system components involve lasers, fiber-optic couplers, optics, optics mounts, sample viewing camera systems and other electro-opto-mechanical components.
Work with scientist staffs and application engineers to come up with system prototype design. Drive CIP (Continuous Improvement Program) to continuously validate, streamline and improve the original system design.
Lead the design documentation process at different phases of product development cycle.
Work extensively with internal staffs as well as customers to provide high quality support for issues related to system design.
Develop and maintain production cost estimates and bill of material (BOM) for different company analytical product lines. Take responsibility for organizing and maintaining mechanical drawing database for different ASI analytical product lines.
Assist ASI field support group with occasional visits to customer sites to help resolve field issues related to the system design. Provide flexibility in performing tasks that are outside of his/her core responsibilities to help the company achieve the main business objectives.
Support installed base of ASI analytical tools at customer sites with periodic maintenance, failed component replacement, and minor adjustment of optical and mechanical parts to maintain optimum tool performance.
Interface with system component vendors and manufacturing subcontractors for quotation and system component fabrication activities.
Minimum Job Requirements/Qualifications:
Laser system related experience highly preferred.
Understanding of complex optical systems.
Prior system design experience of laser spectroscopy (Raman, FTIR, LIBS, etc) based analytical instruments is preferred.
Experience with mechanical systems, parts assembly, failure prediction and analysis.
Must understand manufacturing processes and is able to coordinate different component vendors for on-time system integration and final system assembly. Must understand the concept of dimensional tolerance, system component fabrication processes, general scheme for mounting and integrating opto-mechanical system components.
Understanding of design-for-manufacturability concepts.
Proficiency with AutoCad/ Solid Works/ Pro E/ Zemax program and other Optical/ mechanical drawing/designing programs
Attention to details.
Results driven with a strong sense of responsibility and independence
Good verbal and written communication skills; Good presentation skills
Ability to meet deadlines and perform urgent work when necessary
Must be comfortably working with multiple priorities.
Education/Experience:
Minimum 2-5 years of design experience opto-mechanical system.
Bachelor's Engineering degree.
Hands on experience with laser optics and analytical instrumentation a plus
Experience with instrumentation based on laser spectroscopy and mass spectrometry helpful but not required
Excellent mechanical drawing skill critical
