Fine Arts Department Coordinator position
The San Mateo County Fair and Festival is currently seeking a Department Coordinator to oversee and develop the Fine Arts Department together with the Fine Arts Advisory Committee. The Fine Arts Department is comprised of visual arts, photography, literary arts and video arts.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership for the department including facilitating monthly meetings, serving as liaison with fair staff, recruiting and training department team assistant and volunteers
- Edit and redesign the existing contests, rules and prizes within the Entry & Prize Competitive exhibits Catalog. Work together with the catalogue coordinator to implement appropriate changes.
- In conjunction with fair staff and advisory committee, identify qualified judges for each of the respective divisions within the Entry & Prize Catalog. Also coordinate the selection of all around awards, special awards and the bookkeeping thereof.
- Work with staff to identify potential sponsorship areas within the department, assist in solicitation where needed and help coordinate recognition and follow up for sponsors.
- Overseeing the coordination of various aspects of the exhibition’s design, display mechanisms, move in/move out schedule, etc.
- Recruit and solicit the community for new exhibitors and identify organizations/businesses/etc. who would be appropriate as a feature exhibit within the department’s exhibition.
This is a volunteer position with a set stipend that will require about 400 plus hours of work time. The San Mateo County Fair and Festival dates range from August 15 to the 23 rd. The department coordinator will set their own hours according to the fair production timelines and needs, however it can be expected that hours will progressively increase from the start date to the event date. The coordinator will need to be available to be present during the entire fair event dates. This position reports to the Fair and
Festival Assistant Manager and the Fair Oversight Committee.
About the San Mateo County Fair and Festival : For 75 years the San Mateo County Fair and Festival has been one of the Peninsula’s largest community celebrations. Lasting nine days and with an attendance of just under 150,000 guests, the county fair is a well known popular summer attraction for people of all ages within the Bay Area and beyond. Sights and sounds of the event include thousands of exhibits created by local citizens, bright carnival lights, first‐rate entertainment, commercial, arts and crafts exhibits and endless food to enjoy. Community support by businesses and individuals alike is crucial in the success of the event. The fair is a non‐profit organization hosted at the San Mateo County Event Center.
