Family Violence Law Center (FVLC) seeks to end family violence in Alameda County by providing legal, counseling, and support for survivors of domestic violence, conducting prevention education to change individual and community perceptions about relationship abuse, and advocating for change within the legal, health, education, and criminal justice systems.

POSITION: Family Caseworker

POSITION DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of the Family Violence Intervention Unit Supervisor, the Family Caseworker works from the Alameda County Family Justice Center as an integral part of the Family Violence Intervention Unit team.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain Caseload of 20 Domestic Violence Clients
* Provide immediate emotional support for families with young children (0-5) following an incident of family violence.
* Connect families with existing community resources, based on the family’s individual needs.
* Working closely with FVLC staff psychologists, conduct immediate mental health assessments for children and their caregivers in order to facilitate direct connection to psychosocial support services when needed.
* Provide ongoing case management services to an annual caseload of approximately 250 families, conducting regular follow-up with families and providing support needed to help the family achieve long-term safety and stability.

Participate as Member of FVIU Team
* Attend and actively participate in regularly scheduled team meetings.
* Work closely with collaborative partners including the police department and social service agencies.

Other:
* Maintain data on client contacts, case information, program assessment and community resources.
* Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

* Bilingual in English and Spanish.
* Bachelor’s Degree in child development, social work, psychology or related field.
* Basic understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence.
* Experience working with diverse families and ability to relate well with people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
* Ability to work independently and with a team.
* Criminal background check (provided upon hire).
* CA Domestic Violence Counselor Certification (can be provided upon hire).

PREFERRED QUALITIES:

* Previous experience in crisis intervention.
* Previous experience working with police departments, and/or understanding of the criminal justice system.
* Interest in women’s and domestic violence issues.
* Familiarity with social service agencies in Alameda County.

CLASSIFICATION: Non-exempt, full-time.

COMPENSATION: Starting range is $36,000 - $42,000 annually, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include medical, dental and vision coverage, life insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending account, generous vacation plan.
