We are a community home/co-op in a beautiful old house, with nine bedrooms, near Lake Merritt (near the Parkway Theater, 20 min walk to the Lake Merritt Bart). The house is surrounded by lots of trees and feels like an island oasis within a residential neighbourhood.
The house has a large dining room, living room, and a large activity room for meditation, yoga, workshops etc. There are 3 1/2 baths, a bike rack in the garden and lots of yard space for gardening.
The two rooms available are as follows:
1). This room is large and spacious, about 14 by 14 feet. It is in the basement, and has two windows, a closet, laminated flooring and a killer orange-red paint job (very stylish, you will want to keep it). Rent is $480/month and will be available July 1st.
2). Room 2 is smaller, about 12 by 7, on the upper level of the house, three windows and gets tons of light. The room has a closet, has it's own door to the upstairs porch, and easily fits a futon/bed, a desk, and two shelves with enough room for other stuff. The room is available anytime between July 1st to july 31st with pro-rated rent. Otherwise rent is $485/month.
Note: We are open to a one month sublet for either room.
The utilities run to $30-40/month, and an optional $50/month for foodshare. Landlord requires first and last month's rent in addition to a deposit of $277.78.
The People:
Three men and four women, in their 20's and 30's. Between us we are interested in yoga, dance, meditation, social justice, raw foods, sustainable living, spirituality, gardening, community, music, DIY lifestyle, outdoor activities, football (soccer), running, biking, etc.
We have one to two monthly meetings on Sunday nights. These are required, so please only be in touch if you can commit to meetings on a Sunday night. Chores are also taken seriously, and we have a system for asking for help on weeks where you can't get all your chores done. There are communal meals 2-3 x/week and you will be encouraged to participate either by taking a cooking or cleaning shift.
We are looking for someone who is:
Mindful, clean, tidy and responsible
Caring and positive, with a penchant for thinking before you act/speak
A clear communicator
Friendly and looking for a social house (that means you plan to be invested in living here)
Ready to commit to a chore/cooking system that requires you to contribute 4 to 5 hours a week and 1-2 meetings per month
Interested in permaculture, eco-friendly and sustainable living
LGBTQ/queer friendly and inclusive
Committed to living in an intentional community
We welcome people of all ages and ethinicities.
Be in touch and we'll contact you if it sounds like a good fit. We will not consider your reply unless you include some details about yourself:
What are you looking for in your next housing situation?
What are you like and what do you like to do?
What do you care about?
What other kinds of living situations have you been in?
Anything else we should know about you?
Thanks for reading and good luck in your house search.
PS> We love animals, but there are no pets/animals allowed due to allergies.
